About the Springfield M1A
The Springfield Armory® M1A is a gas-operated semi-auto rifle, based on the renowned M14 service rifle, fielded by the US Military from 1959 to 1970 after the revered M1 Garand was retired from service at the end of the Korean War. Introduced in 1973 and designed specifically for civilian shooters and law enforcement agencies across the United States, the M1A is essentially the same thing as the M14, retrofitted for civilian use making it one of the most iconic semi-auto rifles ever to hit the civilian market. Chambered in .308 Win. or 6.5 Creedmoor, the M1A is offered in classic and traditional models, including the Standard Issue and Tanker models, as well as tuned precision variants and modern tactical versions such as the SOCOM 16™ and Loaded series rifles.

Standard Issue Variant vs. Tanker, Scout Squad™, or SOCOM 16 Variants
A direct descendant of the M14 rifle and the first model to hit the market in 1973, the M1A Standard Issue is the truest, most faithful clone of the original rifle, featuring a 22” carbon steel barrel upon a beautiful walnut or composite stock. A tuned, 2-stage National Match trigger offers a consistent pull and a crisp break, while military aperture rear sight and 0.062” front sight blade work together to offer easy MOA elevation and windage adjustments without any special tools. Available in .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm NATO only with a detachable box magazine and flash suppressor at the muzzle, the Standard Issue is as functional and reliable as it is elegant and stands ready to serve in any tactical, hunting, competitive, or target shooting environment.

The Tanker and SOCOM 16 variants are the tactical, performance-enhanced versions of the M1A, designed to mitigate recoil and deliver improved accuracy in competitive and professional (law enforcement and military) applications. Both models come equipped with a unique 16.25″ barrel, mated to the gas system with a proprietary muzzle brake to mitigate felt recoil for faster follow-up shots and consistent operation in high-stress environments. Plus, the enlarged ghost ring aperture rear sight, and XS Sights® tritium insert in the front sight offer lightning-fast target acquisition and intuitive control you can depend on.

The Loaded Series variants combine the appearance and tradition of the Standard M1A™ with next-level improvements and performance-enhancing features, solely designed for precision and competitive shooters. The Loaded model features a medium-weight, air-gauged National Match barrel with a proprietary, elongated muzzle brake for enhanced accuracy, while the National Match-tuned 4.5- to 5-lb. two-stage trigger offers a consistent, light pull with a crisp, clean break for improved reliability and faster follow-up shots in competitive environments.

No matter your discipline or shooting style, the M1A is a must-have piece of Americana.

Released in 1973? Isn’t the M1A Obsolete?
Hardly! Though the original M1A Standard Issue was released in 1973, it is still one of the most trusted semi-auto rifles chambered in .308 Win/7.62x51mm NATO ever to hit the market. The M1A is a favorite among precision shooters, hunters, ranchers, and law enforcement agencies across the country.
