Founded in 1969 as The Famous Jackass Leather Company by Richard N. Gallagher as a small, independent operation in the suburbs of Chicago, Galco International is one of the oldest and most experienced manufacturers of custom leather holsters and firearms accessories in the United States. In 1980, the company was renamed Galco International, LTD before relocating from Chicago to its current facility in Phoenix, Arizona in 1983. Already famous for high-quality and innovative designs, Galco gained worldwide notoriety when the Jackass shoulder system became a featured holster model on the popular 1980s TV series Miami Vice.

Today, law enforcement personnel across the country continue to use Galco products such as shoulder holsters, OWB/IWB holsters, badge holders, and rifle slings and swivels. Further, Galco donated hundreds of shoulder holsters to deploying service members through the Holsters for Heroes program from 2005 through 2012 in support of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Galco has also become the choice of law-abiding Americans who prefer lasting quality and elegance.
