Frequently Asked Questions

Who Makes PMC Ammo?

PMC ammo is made by Poongsang Corporation, a South Korean metal manufacturer and one of the main ammunition suppliers of the Republic of Korea’s military. PMC — short for Precision Made Cartridges — is Poongsang’s commercial ammo branch and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Where is PMC Ammo Made?

PMC manufactures its ammunition at Poongsang’s Angang and Busan plants in South Korea. Both factories are ISO 9001:2015 certified and meet the Korean military’s standards for defense manufacturing.

Is PMC Ammo Good?

PMC is known for consistent performance and reliability. The brand makes all of its own components, giving it full control over quality assurance for every part of the cartridge. Its ISO certifications and military standards show that PMC doesn’t just say it’s high-quality — it has the evidence to back it up.

All PMC ammo meets rigorous quality standards, but its higher-end lines are the cream of the crop. PMC’s X-Tac and X-Tac Match series of precision ammunition, in particular, have become favorites of competition shooters over the years for their accuracy and consistency.

Is PMC Bronze Ammo Reloadable?

All PMC ammo is reloadable, even its entry-level Bronze ammunition. Keep in mind, though, that PMC’s rifle ammunition may have military-style crimped primers, which are harder to remove and may require a specialized tool to replace.

Is PMC X-Tac Armor Piercing?

PMC X-Tac ammo is not armor piercing, despite some persistent rumors. While the X-tac line is what PMC supplies to military and law enforcement forces across the globe, the versions available to civilians do not meet the federal criteria to be called “armor piercing.”

It’s easy to get confused because many ranges ban green tip rounds, like the PMC X-Tac 5.56. PMC even labels its X-Tac 5.56 ammo as “LAP,” which stands for “light armor piercing,” adding to the confusion. The distinction here is that LAP rounds and other green tips do penetrate further than standard rounds — which is why many indoor ranges ban them — but they don’t penetrate far enough to be considered truly armor piercing.

An X-Tac LAP round will likely go through soft body armor, hence the “light armor piercing” label, but the same goes for almost any high-velocity rifle round.  Still, always check your state ammo restrictions before buying anything, just to be safe.
