Love them or hate them, the Glock 17 and 19 handguns are two of the most successful pistol designs ever. These guns, and other models based on them, are carried by police officers, soldiers, security forces and armed citizens around the world.
While the basic design is solid and battle proven, there are a number of add-ons, upgrades and modifications that people may be inspired to undertake. Some of these changes are to improve the gun’s performance, while others are made for aesthetic reasons alone. I’ve met a few folks, for example, that carry Glock 17 magazines with their Glock 19 pistol for the additional firepower the larger magazines offer. Another popular upgrade is a barrel swap.
Perhaps best known for its drop in AR replacement triggers, CMC Triggers is now offering barrel upgrades for 9mm Glock pistols. These new barrels are considered match grade. According to the company, the barrels are made of DFARS compliant, pre-hardened 416R stainless steel. This steel alloy has very good corrosion resistance and a high tensile strength.
The company machines the steel to “extremely tight tolerances” in an effort to provide maximum performance. All of the machine work is done in house by CMC Triggers, and the company claims this allows it to achieve an “ultra-precise barrel…for improved accuracy.”
CMC Triggers cuts these barrels with a 1:10” right hand twist and uses a double honing process for a very smooth surface. The company states the SAAMI spec chamber is also very smooth.
The barrels can be had in two lengths: one for the Glock 17 and one for the Glock 19. Fluting is available on them, though the company states this is purely cosmetic in nature.
Three different finishes are available: stainless, bronze and black. Regardless of which finish you might select, each barrel has an “ultra low friction” hexagonal boron nitride process for the bore and chamber.
Additionally, the barrels can be had as standard or threaded. Threaded barrels have a ½-28 thread pattern.
According to the company, the new barrels will be available in December 2017 with a price starting at $199.
