CCI Ammunition has released a new .22LR round, the Uppercut Defense. In a first for the company, this new round is specifically designed for self-defense in short-barreled handguns as a personal defense round. CCI’s Rimfire Product Director, Jason Slinkard, explains,
We recognized that there are a growing number of people that have chosen .22LR for their defense pistol for various reasons. We felt it was the right time to produce the best round for those consumers to use for protection.
The new CCI Uppercut Defense delivers power and performance not typical from a traditional .22LR round. With defensive ammo, this is a huge plus. CCI states the 32-grain projectile is what helps this new ammunition provide the punch it needs. The Uppercut Defense .22LR ammunition features a jacketed hollow point bullet. In contrast, traditional .22LR ammo has a round nose or copper-plated hollow point projectile.
The projectile has distinct nose skiving which allows the round to expand fully and reliably upon impact when shot from 2.5 to 4-inch barrels. According to CCI, the round maintains the weight needed for critical penetration depths between 8 and 10 inches. The round also includes CCI’s reliable priming and propellant for repeatable function. Slinkard further explained the Undercut’s projectile design,
What makes this product stand out is its plating thickness. Typically, our .22LR bullets, such as our popular Mini-Mag line, have a thin flash plate that requires wax to keep the barrel from leading. The heavy copper plating on Uppercut measures six thousandths of an inch. This design feature is a key to its overall effectiveness as a self-defense bullet.
The new CCI Uppercut Defense .22LR ammunition, featuring a 32-grain jacketed hollow point projectile, is available now and arrives in 50 count boxes. CCI has this ammo priced at $12.99.
