Daniel Defense has another new firearm for 2024 with the company’s first-ever pistol-caliber carbine. Built around the CZ Scorpion magazine pattern, the PCC has plenty of DD touches to warrant a deeper look.
Even with a plain name, as some would suggest, the PCC is an AR-platform-based carbine with several key features to make it a true Daniel Defense product. With the company keyed up for a 9mm platform with the release of the new H9, DD took that production and turned it towards a PCC to develop a rifle. While the platform is built around the double-stack magazine, the rifle also uses a cold hammer-forged barrel. With the proven technology with DD’s barrels, the rifle will be offered in two barrel lengths to start, an 8.5-inch and a 16-inch length, with plans to expand the offerings in the future.
Chambered in 9mm Luger, the PCC features a direct blowback system with recoil mitigation and a hydraulic buffer system from Kynshot. However, the PCC is not compatible with aftermarket parts and accessories. Instead, the PCC uses a custom bolt and has shortened down features that don’t make it compatible with other aftermarket items, however, most other pieces are standard to the AR platform.
The PCC was built to be fully ambidextrous with the charging handle, selector, magazine release, and bolt catch. With controls being mirrored on each side, it won’t matter if the shooter is right- or left-hand dominant, the controls will be the same. Additionally, since it’s built on a DD base, the PCC is customizable from the handguard to the AR fire control group, to the furniture, users can make this PCC whatever they want it to be. The handguard provided on the PCC is the MFR model with M-LOK cutouts for further customization.
The PCC utilizes a push-button magazine release but can only be used with CZ-patterned magazines. Sorry folks, no Glock mags for this system. Daniel Defense at the time of publishing has no final word on pricing but expects all those details to be worked out very soon.
