Walther Releases PDP Steel Frame Pistols

The Walther PDP, or Personal Defense Pistol, was released a few years ago as a red-dot-ready successor to the legendary Walther PPQ. It sports the same legendary grip ergonomics with a more tactile slide and one of the best out-of-box triggers a striker-fired handgun can have. But if you prefer a steel frame gun, Walther has now introduced the PDP Steel Frame.

Quick Specs:

  • Model: PDP Steel Frame Compact/Full-Size
  • Caliber: 9mm Luger
  • Capacity: 15/18
  • Barrel Length: 4.0 /4.5 inches
  • Overall Length: 7.4 /7.9 inches
  • Weight:  38/40 oz. unloaded

The new Walther PDP Steel Frame line includes a full-size 4.5-inch model and a magazine capacity of eighteen rounds or a compact 4-inch model that boasts fifteen rounds. Both have the same Superterrain forward and rearward cocking serrations on the stainless-steel slide as the standard PDP as well as the same stippling pattern along the wrap-around polymer grip panels. The PDP Steel frame line also includes a flared magazine well and a Picatinny rail for mounting a weapons light, as well as Glock 19-compatible three-dot sights.

Like the standard polymer-framed versions, the PDP Steel Frame models have an ambidextrous slide release and a reversible magazine release. They are also optics-ready, and Walther can provide an optics plate for the optic of your choice for free. These models also retain the same Dynamic Performance Trigger, which features a very short, tactile reset and a light pull weight that makes it among the best in its class. Both are now shipping and have an MSRP of $1,699.
