New from Franklin Armory for SHOT 2024 is the OPS-16R. In 2018, Franklin Armory bought Osprey Defense and they’ve announced this new rifle integrating Osprey’s low-profile gas piston system — only better. The Franklin Armory OPS-16R is a fantastic next step in the evolution of the manufacturer’s line of firearms and triggers.
Franklin Armory is known for innovation and thinking outside the box. In line with that reputation, they’re pleased to announce their latest design: the OPS-16R. This complete AR-15 includes an updated, improved version of the Osprey Defense low-profile gas piston system. Part of what sets the OPS-16R apart from similar firearms is its self-regulating Osprey Defense piston design. What’s more, this unique design allows users to switch between shooting suppressed and unsuppressed without adjusting the gas block. The rifle is chambered in 5.56 NATO. Interestingly, the OPS-16R also operates without any piston springs. This means there are fewer moving parts which translates to greater reliability as well as easier maintenance.
The OPS-16R features a slimline M-LOK handguard like the one used on the company’s innovative F17 line chambered in high-velocity 17 Winchester Super Magnum. The gun also utilizes Franklin Armory’s proprietary Triumvir muzzle device. Designed with both sleek aesthetics and superior overall performance, Franklin Armory states the OPS-16R shoots exceptionally smooth. In addition, other features include a B5 grip and SOPMOD adjustable stock to easily adjust the rifle to fit the user.
The base model of the Franklin Armory OPS-16R has an MSRP of $1,349.99. The Binary Firing System® (BFSIII®) configuration’s MSRP is $1,539.99. Franklin Armory’s Osprey Defense piston system is also available as a complete upper receiver with 16-inch barrel at an MSRP of $849.99.
SHOT Show 2024 attendees can check out the OPS-16R at Franklin Armory’s booth #20349.
