The Springfield Armory 1911 Emissary: Back in Black

Springfield Armory rolled out its 1911 Emissary nearly three years ago, and it quickly gained notoriety for its blend of classic and modern design features. Since its introduction, the Emissary has successfully bridged the gap between duty and custom handguns, while delivering defense-minded features.

New for 2024, the Emissary has expanded with all-black variants offered in 4.25-inch and 5-inch barrel lengths, chambered in either 9mm or .45 ACP. As with the original two-tone models, the new additions to the Emissary line are constructed with a forged steel frame and slide for strength and durability – while now sporting a black Cerakote finish. The pistols also feature the eye-catching and distinctive squared trigger guard, offering additional room for ease of operation with a gloved hand. The 4.25-inch model also offers a full-length dust cover with a strip of Picatinny rail.

The new fully blacked-out Emissary brings a sleek new look to this popular family of 1911 pistols, and are offered in 5-inch and 4.25-inch versions in either .45 ACP or 9mm.

“These four variants add a unique new look to the popular Emissary line of 1911 pistols,” said Steve Kramer, vice president of marketing for Springfield Armory. “With this all-black finish, shooters now have four new appealing options for a defensive handgun with an additional measure of refinement.”

Of course, the Emissary delivers more than just a new finish. The line is still noted for its slide’s “Tri-Top” cut, which provides unique styling, while the flattened top strap is finished with 40 line-per-inch (l.p.i.) serrations to diffuse light and reduce glare. The tritium and luminescent front sight on the pistol pairs with a Tactical Rack U-Dot rear sight for easy target acquisition in all lighting conditions.

Within the Emissary’s slide is its bushing-less stainless steel bull barrel with a black nitride finish – promising to deliver maximum accuracy while reducing felt recoil and muzzle flip. In addition, its skeletonized hammer can provide ultra-fast lock times and combines with a solid-body, flat-faced trigger for top-end performance.

The frame’s front strap and mainspring housing are also wrapped in a grenade-pattern texture for firm engagement in adverse conditions, and these are matched with slim-line G10 machined grip panels from VZ Grips.
