According to the manufacturer, the Dark Horse is the first 38 Super caliber offering in their lineup of Colt projects that features the superb metal-smithing of Pete Single. The gun was designed with careful attention to detail and offers fantastic aesthetic appeal including stylized vintage roll marks, highly polished slide flats, and two-tone hardware.
A high-phosphorus electroless nickel finish was used on many of the Dark Horse’s components, including the barrel bushing, slide stop, thumb safety, magazine catch, hammer, grip screws, and slide. Not only does this type of finish give the gun an undeniably striking appearance but it provides excellent corrosion resistance which, in turn, translates to resistance to wear and tear. The use of a nickel finish also provides a nice contrast with the gun’s blued frame.
The frame itself features Pete Single’s signature 25 line per inch checkering, a 360-degree beveled magazine well, and a traditional high-cut front strap. The cut in the front strap is designed to blend with the bottom of the trigger guard to facilitate a high grip during live fire. Not only are these upgrades eye-catching, but they’re also functional.
