Holosun Optics has announced the availability of a SIG P320-specific, direct-fit SCS-320 (Solar Charging Sight) red dot optic. This news will be of interest not only to P320 and M18 users but to all the soon-to-be P320 owners in California.
The Holosun SCS-320 is an enclosed optic that attaches directly to the slide of a P320 and other RDS-ready handguns with a Delta Point Pro footprint. It has three reticle options:
- MRS 32 MOA circle with 2 MOA dot
- a standalone 2 MOA dot
- Standalone 32 MOA circle
Adjustments, they tell us, are 1 MOA per click. Travel range is a full +/- 30 MOA. The SCS includes an intensity override function that locks the optic into High brightness mode for 30 minutes as well as a low power indicator designed to give the user plenty of advanced notice that a recharge is in order.
To that point, the greatest advantage of a properly functioning Solar Charging Sight is obviously its ability to function without a replaceable battery. The SCS-320 (and its cousin) accomplishes this with the use of a solar, rechargeable 20,000-hour battery. This provides what is effectively indefinite use, assuming proper function, the recurrent availability of light, and the prevention of physical damage.
Maybe that’s not so great in places affected by polar night or polar twilight, but an excellent feature everywhere else.
SCS-P320 Specs
- 2 MOA and 32 MOA circle reticle.
- 540nm light wavelength (I’m not qualified to explain that, but it’s important information for the lumen-candela nerds).
- Parallax-free (as much as any optic is, mind you).
- Unlimited eye relief.
- No magnification.
- Auto brightness setting (some won’t like this, but for the majority of users it’ll be fine).
Note: That last feature is a part of what Holosun calls Solar Failsafe (q.v.). In simplest terms it means reticle intensity is automatically adjusted by the optic’s sensors to match ambient light conditions; a brighter reticle in brighter light, a lower-intensity reticle in lower-light environments.
