Bushmaster Firearms of Carson City, Nevada has produced a solid AR platform for decades. In the past, they were among the few to offer a bolt action rifle chambered in the massive .50 BMG cartridge. The Bushmaster BA50 has now returned.
The BA50 is new and improved over the original and it is built with recreation and tactical use in mind. The heart of the rifle is its 29-inch free-floated barrel. It is constructed of 4150 steel and finished with a black cerakote. It comes capped with a Bushmaster 3-Prong muzzle brake. The barrel is housed in a 14-inch M-LOK aluminum handguard that comes with an integral Picatinny rail that runs along to a matching section at the receiver. At the bottom, the BA 50 wears a GG&G CB-3 Tactical Bipod, a must to wield this 29.5 lb. rifle.
Although oversized and bolt-action, the BA50 is surprisingly AR-like. It has a 7076 aluminum upper receiver, and the lower receiver is made of 6061P6 aluminum and features a safety selector and forward-mounted bolt handle on the right side of the rifle. The magazine release is located on the left side for the trigger finger to release. The lower wears an ERGO Tactical Super Ambi Grip and a BFI single-stage trigger. The inclusion of a Magpul PRS Gen 3 Adjustable buttstock and a 10-round detachable magazine rounds out this massive rifle.
The revamped Bushmaster BA50 comes in either an all-black or FDE cerakote finish and ships in a hard case. These new rifles are shipping now and have an MSRP of $6,878.95.
