Volquartsen ENV 17 HMR Pistol — Plinking Perfection

AR pistols have a wide variety of uses. Aside from the obvious fun of the platform, they have useful applications, too. The Volquartsen ENV 17 HMR does it all from plinking to practicing marksmanship to hunting varmints. This pistol is chambered in 17 HMR and designed to be both enjoyable to shoot and versatile.

Volquartsen provides details of the ENV 17 HMR:

Perfect for small game, varmint control, or range day. The ENV-HMR features the Volquartsen aluminum 17 HMR receiver with an integral 0 MOA Picatinny rail and a 9″ Lightweight barrel. The barrel is threaded 1/2 x 28 for the addition of a suppressor or compensator. The barreled action is then fit into a DEEP SIX Chassis System that offers compact versatility.

The gun maker goes on to say:

This versatile pistol configuration is perfect for range day or even small game and varmint. The 22 LR models are red dot ready with a receiver that is drilled and tapped for most popular red dots. This allows you to keep the red dot as close to the bore-axis as possible. The 17 HMR models utilize our aluminum receiver which features an integral 0 MOA Picatinny rail. The barreled action is then fit into an ODIN Chassis System that offers compact versatility for the rimfire platforms. It incorporates all the current AR-15 attachment standards for a new level of function.

Product development specialist Kolby Pavlock made a few remarks about the pistol:

Following the success of the 22 LR ENV it was time to step it up a notch. The ENV-HMR does exactly that – more energy, more firepower. The ENV-HMR offers 17 HMR ballistics in the same compact ENV configuration. It’s as versatile in the field as it is fun on the range.

The ENV is meant to be a fun range pistol while also offering practical applications like varmint hunting. Its 17 HMR chambering is a bit hotter and flatter than 22 LR, making it a great choice for varmint hunters. Use of a stabilizing brace and some time practicing on the range should make the ENV quite useful for dropping squirrels and other size-appropriate prey. And thanks to the pistol’s integral Picatinny rail, it’s reasonably simple to add accessories to the gun.
