Let’s talk about the hosts I used for these mounts. I installed the LEAP/03 mount with a custom ACRO P2 cerakoted in RAL8000 cerakote for a very unique rifle called the Perun. It is a hybrid between a DI and a piston gun and looks like something from a sci-fi movie. I love having the right aesthetic for the gun, and the raised ACRO looks so good on this platform. The 1.93 height allows me to shoot with my head up rather than having to bear down on my buttstock.
For the LEAP/04, I installed a Trijicon RMR with fiber optic and tritium illumination. I chose the RMR due to the durability of this optic. Again, bringing another space gun into the mix, the Kriss Vector is iconic at this point. Used in futuristic action flicks and everyone’s favorite video games, the Scalarworks fits right at home on top of this Vector. The Leap/04 can accommodate a variety of optics, including multiple Holosuns like the popular 507C.
Red dot optics have become increasingly popular in recent years. Many people are adding a pistol caliber carbine to their collection due to the platform’s versatility. It allows individuals to increase their engagement distance while utilizing the same rounds they have for their pistols, like 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. USPSA added Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC) as a division a handful of years ago, and most competitors are using red dot systems on their carbines. This is due to the speed of sight acquisition. Outside of the red dot mounts, they also make scope mounts. I bought the Scalarwoks 08 mount right when it was released and have a lot of time on it between rifle competitions and teaching classes. It incorporates many of the same technology used in the red dot mounts with a few added ones to make the user experience even better for scoped optics. One of my favorites is the leveling screw. The number one mistake I see people making is not mounting their scope level. This screw interfaces with the bottom of the scope to ensure that it is leveled before you tighten your rings. It also has a large footprint on the Picatinny rail for better contact with the rifle. This also has two quick, detach ClickDrive levers to secure the optic mount. It is the best lightweight mount on the market for magnified optics.
