SAAMI Develops Suppressor Thread and Socket Drawings

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc., (SAAMI), has developed suppressor thread and socket drawings and made them publicly available, without restriction. The Institute, dedicated to creating and promoting firearm industry standards since 1926, released drawings for rimfire (in ½-28), centerfire pistol and revolver (in 1/2-28 and 9/16-24), and centerfire rifle (in ½-28, 5/8-24, 11/16-24, M18x1.5 RH, and ¾-24).

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (SAAMI) developed, and released without restriction, suppressor thread and socket drawings on its website. The Institute, around since 1926, has been tasked with creating and promoting universal performance and safety standards for firearms, ammunition, and components.

“With suppressors gaining in popularity among recreational shooters, SAAMI is leading the way in developing technical and compatibility guidelines for manufacturing this equipment,” said SAAMI President and CEO Joe Bartozzi. “I am proud of the SAAMI team for developing and making this resource publicly available.”

SAAMI Technical drawing
The technical drawings for the suppressor thread and sockets, like the one above, will help standardize threads for better compatibility between products.

The development of suppressor thread and socket drawings aligns with SAAMI’s overall mission to create manufacturing standards that serve the industry’s interests of compatibility, reliability, and interchangeability. By creating a uniform set of guidelines for both the threads on the muzzle and the internal socket of the suppressor, or other attached device, manufacturers and users can be assured that devices compliant to the standards will work together.

The development of the suppressor and socket drawings line up with SAAMI’s mission of creating the industry standards, like thread requirements on barrels to host suppressors. SAAMI President and CEO Joe Bartozzi stated that the Institute was leading the way to develop guidelines and is proud of making the resource available.

“It is exciting to see SAAMI expanding its reach for the benefit of American sport shooters by providing technical guidance in the field of sound suppression and methods of attachment for muzzle devices,” said Alan Serven, SAAMI’s Senior Director of Technical Affairs.
The drawings are part of SAAMI’s ongoing project to develop standards for firearm suppressors. The full drawings can be found on the SAAMI website for those interested parties.

Patti Miller is one of the most awesome females in the tactical/firearm (or any) industry. Imagine a tall, hawt, dangerous Laura Ingalls Wilder type with cool hair and a suppressed blaster and you'll be getting the idea. What's interesting is that in addition to being a willing brawler and intrepid adventuress, she's also an Ent/Ogier level gardener and a truly badass baker.
