Enhancing Precision Shooting With the Magpul Bipod for M-LOK

As a gun guy who loves to push my shooting limits, I’m always looking for ways to send bullets farther. Why not? Rifles aren’t designed to be close-in weapons. They were invented to hit stuff far away. Very far away. The farther, the better. Nobody cares who holds the record for the shortest rifle shot. We care about Chris Kyle, Carlos Hathcock, Vasily Zaytsev, and other famous snipers who “reached out and touched someone” at extreme distances.

Freehanding a long-range shot is a monumental task if you even want to try it. Every great long shot is accomplished with some sort of rifle brace, whether it be a sandbag, a tree stump, or a bipod. Bracing the weapon firmly is critical to launching the bullet in exactly the right direction every time. For most of us, that means a sturdy bipod, one that offers maximum stability. And if you carry it on a portable platform like an AR-15, it needs to be lightweight and easily stowed when it’s not needed.

Installing the Magpul Bipod for M-LOK was super simple with the included Allen wrench, which I then used to build some Swedish furniture.

The Magpul Bipod for M-LOK is a recent addition to my arsenal that has left a lasting impression. This review aims to delve into the key features and benefits of this amazing little piece of terrific gear, with a specific focus on its ease of installation, leg deployment and adjustment, as well as stability when mounted to the M-LOK handguard.

Ease of Installation

Starting with the installation process, the Magpul Bipod’s design exemplifies simplicity. The bipod is purpose-built for the M-LOK attachment system, making the installation a breeze. With its intuitive design, I found that attaching the bipod to my AR-15 was a matter of seconds, and I didn’t need any special tools, just the included Allen wrench, to get the job done. The M-LOK interface allows for a secure and rattle-free fit, ensuring that the bipod is tightly fixed to the rifle. This ease of installation is a major plus for shooters who want to spend more time on the range and less time fumbling with complex accessory setups. Nobody wants that.

The other advantage of easy installation is if by some chance the bipod were to come loose — unlikely, but it could happen — reattaching it is quick and simple.

Magpul Bipod Leg Deployment and Adjustment

The Magpul Bipod truly shines when it comes to leg deployment and adjustment. The legs are spring-tensioned, which means that they can be easily deployed by just flipping them out. No buttons to push or latches to release. This feature is particularly useful in dynamic shooting situations where speed and adaptability are crucial. When the stakes are high, being able to rapidly deploy or retract the bipod’s legs can make a significant difference in shot accuracy. Not in a hurry? This easy deployment makes everyday shooting on the range easy, too.

When not in use, the bipod tucks neatly away against the handguard yet leaves enough room for your support hand if you prefer to face the legs backward.

Moreover, the legs’ height adjustment is a standout feature. The bipod offers seven height options, ranging from a low-profile stance for close-quarters shooting to an extended height for longer-range engagements. The height adjustment mechanism is well-engineered, providing audible clicks at each position, and allowing for consistent and precise adjustments.

Stability

The real test of any bipod’s worth is its ability to maintain stability during firing. Here, the Magpul Bipod delivers in full. When mounted on my AR-15, the bipod’s connection was rock-solid, leaving me confident in the reliability of my shooting platform. The M-LOK attachment system played a pivotal role in achieving this stability, as it eliminates any wobble or movement between the bipod and the rifle.

And when the legs were snapped in place, they held firmly with no wiggle. Not that I did much banging the legs on the concrete table that I was using as a shooting platform, but I did accidentally bump it a few times and half-expected to damage the legs. But, alas, not only were they undamaged, they continued to hold the front of the gun perfectly with zero wobble.

Stability is sure and solid with the Magpul Bipod for M-LOK. While shooting targets at 100, 200, and 300 yards, the rifle held steady, with minimal bounce and movement off the concrete shooting platform.

What good are legs without solid feet? In the case of the Magpul bipod, it has a pair of rubber feet that held very well with no slipping as I shot beyond the expected shifting from a bit of recoil. After all, rifles do move a bit when fired. But they held as firm as can be expected.

If you prefer different feet, simply punch in the side pins and replace them with something more suitable to your needs. For my needs, the factory feet are more than adequate.

I was pleasantly surprised by the bipod’s ability to absorb recoil and muzzle rise. The robust construction and thoughtful design of the Magpul Bipod ensure that the rifle stays on target after each shot, minimizing the need for constant repositioning. This stability is particularly valuable for precision shooting where even the slightest movement can impact accuracy.

Additional Magpul Bipod Features and Considerations

Beyond its core features, the Magpul Bipod boasts a few additional elements that enhance its overall utility. The rubberized feet of the bipod provide excellent traction on various surfaces, further contributing to stability. This is especially crucial when shooting on uneven terrain or unconventional shooting positions.

The bipod also offers 45 degrees of tilt in both directions, which is particularly useful when shooting on uneven ground or when engaging targets at varying elevations. This feature eliminates the need to compromise on shot placement due to the landscape, adding to the bipod’s versatility.

I also appreciate the durability of the Magpul Bipod. Constructed from high-strength polymer and aluminum, the bipod strikes a balance between robustness and weight. This lightweight design doesn’t burden the rifle while still offering impressive durability, ensuring that the bipod can withstand the rigors of regular use without showing signs of wear.

Parting Shot

In conclusion, the Magpul Bipod for M-LOK stands as a prime example of a well-engineered accessory that addresses the needs of precision shooters. Its ease of installation, coupled with intuitive leg deployment and adjustment, elevates the shooting experience by providing adaptability and speed. When mounted on the AR platform, the bipod’s stability shines, allowing for consistent shot placement even during rapid-fire sequences.

Whether you’re a competitive shooter, a hunting enthusiast, or a marksman dedicated to perfecting your craft, the Magpul Bipod offers a range of features that cater to your needs. Its robust construction, ease of use, and reliability make it a valuable addition to any rifle setup. After spending considerable time with this bipod, I can confidently say that it has earned its place as an indispensable tool in my shooting endeavors.
