30 Super Carry Now SAAMI Official

Federal Premium Ammunition announced the 30 Super Carry early in the first quarter of 2022, and with that ammo launch came the promise of a fantastic self-defense cartridge. A number of firearms are being made chambered in this cartridge and ammunition options are expanding. The 30 Super Carry is also a Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) approved cartridge, which is good news for handloaders and manufacturers in general.

The cartridge offers greater capacity in handguns with ballistics similar to that of 9mm. (Photo credit: Federal Premium)

Federal Premium provides the following details of the cartridge:

The .312-inch-diameter projectile used in 30 Super Carry allows more magazine capacity than 9mm Luger, yet delivers equal muzzle energy and performance. The dimensions allow chambering in handguns with reduced grip circumference and smaller overall size for easier concealment.

The 30 Super Carry’s slimmed-down dimensions result in a simple physical truth. A magazine the size of your standard 9mm Luger pistol’s will carry additional rounds — two more in initially available handgun models. You get the proven power of a 9mm Luger with added capacity that can make all the difference in a real-world self-defense scenario.

Federal’s…high-performance 30 Super Carry handgun cartridge delivers 9mm Luger terminal performance using a smaller case to provide big benefits for concealed carry.

The best defensive cartridge will only perform to its full potential for the user through diligent training with ballistically comparable practice ammunition. American Eagle 30 Super Carry fills this role, providing an extremely similar feel and point of impact as its HST counterpart.

This cartridge is a direct competitor with the always popular 9x19mm Parabellum. Despite its being slightly narrower than 9mm, it performs on fairly equal footing with the older round. Thanks to its smaller dimensions, the capacity of guns chambered in it is greater than similar models produced in 9mm. This is a promising cartridge from a respected ammo manufacturer that offers ever-broadening options. If you’re looking for a change of pace for your carry gun, consider taking a closer look at the 30 Super Carry.

It’s always nice to have options, especially when it comes to self-defense handguns. Do you have a gun chambered in this cartridge? Do you intend to get one? Tell us what you think of the cartridge in the comments section below.
