About the IWI UZI
Initially designed for the Israeli Defense Forces, the IWI® US Uzi is a civilian version of the Israeli-designed, open-bolt, blowback-operated 9mm submachine gun, originally designed by Major Uziel "Uzi" Gal in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Favored by collectors, home-defense shooters, and sport shooters worldwide, the UZI was primarily used as a personal defense weapon for rearward combat units, artillery personnel, and tank units, before being retired and imported as a collectible weapon in the mid-1980s.

The unique open bolt design exposes the breech end of the barrel, drastically improving cooling during periods of continuous full-auto and semi-auto fire. While the open bolt offers exceptional cooling performance, the downside is that the receiver is more susceptible to contamination from sand, dirt, moisture, and other debris, which severely limits its overall reliability in combat conditions. The telescoping bolt wraps around the breech end of the barrel, allowing the barrel to be moved far back into the receiver and the magazine to be housed in the pistol grip for improved balanced and intuitive handling. The non-reciprocating charging handle offers quick, effortless charging and remains clear of the shooter’s grip for safe handling and consistent, jam-free operation. Further, the UZI features a durable, stamped-steel receiver, engineered to deliver exceptional reliability while simultaneously cutting costs, while the 3-position selector lever and grip safety work together to deliver safe handling and protect against accidental discharges.
