Mossberg is pleased to announce that their proven Patriot bolt-action rifle is now available in .400 Legend. This cartridge is known for delivering fantastic down-range penetration and accuracy, all with low felt recoil. .400 Legend is perfect for deer hunters residing in states with restrictions that make straight-walled cartridges preferable. Two versions are offered: a walnut-stocked rifle and a black synthetic stock rifle, both of which have 20-inch threaded barrels.

These bolt-action rifles are designed around Mossberg’s twin-lug push-feed machined-steel action. The .400 Legend-chambered Patriots are fed from a flush polymer magazine and have a 4+1 capacity. Guns feature free-floating, 20-inch carbon steel barrels with 11/16-24 threads for quick attachment of suppressors and muzzle devices. A protective thread cap comes standard, and the rifles have an 11-degree match crown. Further, the Patriot comes with Weaver-style bases. And, of course, Patriot rifles have the gun maker’s patented LBA™ (Lightning Bolt Action™) user-adjustable trigger, which has a range of 2 to 7-pound pull weight. The guns also have streamlined, checkered bolt handles, spiral-fluted bolts, and sling swivel stud attachment points.

As for the cartridge itself, the .400 Legend is a Winchester-designed straight-walled cartridge with energy equivalent to the .450 Bushmaster, only with as much as 20% less recoil. Winchester also describes the .400 Legend as producing 20% more energy than the .30-30 Win, 25% more energy than the .350 Legend, and 100% more energy than a 12-gauge slug at 100 yards. This is a versatile cartridge capable of deep penetration and stellar accuracy for medium to big game animals. It has an effective range of approximately 250 yards.

MSRP for the Mossberg Patriot in 400 Legend depends on specific features, ranging from $484-$669.
