FN’s New .22LR FN502 MRD Pistol

On the heels of the company’s announcement of the expanded big-bore pistols, FN has announced the newest addition to its .22LR family of pistols as well. The FN 502 MRD follows in the footsteps of the successful FN 502 Tactical, the FN 502 MRD has been purpose-built that has been designed for high round count training with maximum fun.

The FN 502 MRD features the same optics mounting system as the Tactical model, one that was inspired by the Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System. The 502 MRD is said to be compatible with many micro red dot optics on interchangeable MRD insert plates with integrated sights for different optics. With or without an optic mounted, the pistol slide looks uniform. Speaking of the slide, it is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum and steel which has been anodized. The pistol’s slide also features front and rear cocking serrations for easier manipulation while adding a little aesthetic to the slide.

New to FN’s .22LR pistol family is the FN 502 MRD. This pistol is based on the popular FN 509 style pistol but in .22LR. Available in either black or FDE, this small pistol is compatible with most micro red dots and comes with necessary optics plates for easy mounting. [Photo credit: FN America]
“When we first started the development of the FN 502 platform, our goal was to up the ante for quality and versatility in a new rimfire pistol, applying our expertise in factory-milled optics-ready slides, suppressor-ready barrels, and professional-quality triggers, some of the most sought after benefits in the FN 509 and FNX pistol product lines. We truly set a high bar for the industry,” said Chris Cole, Vice President of Sales for FN America, LLC. “The MRD model is the natural evolution of the FN 502 platform, allowing users to add a red dot, and make the most of the exceptional trigger. The MRD model offers another high-performance .22LR pistol for our customer base who value affordable quality in their rimfire pistols.”

The .22LR FN 502 MRD is a hammer-fired pistol with the reportedly best-in-class single-action trigger and is said to have the perfect balance between slide and frame. According to FN, the 502 MRD offers superior ergonomics which were inspired by the grip profile of the FN509 pistol family. It is made to perform like a robust-style target pistol to deliver accurate rounds on target quickly while offering the versatility that shooters want from a rimfire pistol

Arriving from the factory with two 10-round magazines that flush-fit along with the necessary plates to mount compatible micro red dot optics, the pistol is ready to go out of the box for the shooter. As a final note, with its similar muzzle and trigger guard dimensions, the FN 502 MRD will fit in most FN 509 holsters. The FN 502 MRD has an MSRP of $469 and is available now.

Patti Miller is one of the most awesome females in the tactical/firearm (or any) industry. Imagine a tall, hawt, dangerous Laura Ingalls Wilder type with cool hair and a suppressed blaster and you'll be getting the idea. What's interesting is that in addition to being a willing brawler and intrepid adventuress, she's also an Ent/Ogier level gardener and a truly badass baker.
