Gunbroker has released its annual list of the top-selling firearms across its platform for 2023. It’s arguable that this isn’t the official best-selling list of 2023 as it’s just the guns sold on Gunbroker. However, it’s the closest we are going to get. Gunbroker likely moves more guns than any other individual out there since they act as an online gun store for basically any gun store that wants to set up a shop. Gunbroker released a list of the top 25, but the Top 10 is the most interesting to me.
Best Sellers According to GunBroker
The Top 10 list is dominated by handguns. There aren’t a ton of rifles or shotguns on the list. When you look at the list, you might wonder why there isn’t an AR on the list. I think it’s because there are just so many people producing ARs, and companies like PSA are selling directly to consumers. This list isolates guns by specific models. If AR-15 was a simple category, it might dominate the top spot, but since it’s a diluted market, it’s tough to take a spot.
Who did take the top spot? Great question; let’s quit the foreplay and jump into action with the top best-selling guns…according to Gunbroker.
The Top 10
1. Sig Sauer P365
No surprise that the king of microcompacts takes the top spot as the best-selling handgun of 2023 and the best-selling gun overall. The Sig Sauer P365 is the first gun to utilize an innovative magazine design that allowed for ten rounds of 9mm to occupy the same space a magazine that normally holds six to seven rounds occupied. The P365 is an entire family of firearms at this point, with an option for everyone, dominating the concealed carry market with no apparent challenger.
2. Sig Sauer P320
The number two spot is another Sig Sauer handgun. It’s been a great year for Sig Sauer, and the P320 has seemingly overcome the hit it took to its reputation. The gun is becoming increasingly popular with police forces, and the military’s adoption has only spurred additional sales of the gun. Its modular design and the fact Sig seemingly makes a few dozen SKUs allows anyone to find a P320 for their needs. It’s not a huge surprise the gun has become a huge hit.
3. Mossberg 590
I’m surprised to see a shotgun in the top ten, but if one shotgun deserves the spot, it’s the Mossberg 590. The Mossberg 590 is the tactical variant of the Mossberg 500 and was originally designed to military specifications. The Mossberg 590 series occupies a few different SKUs and has even evolved into the .410 and 20 gauge caliber. It’s an incredibly reliable pump action shotgun that’s optics-ready, and numerous variations exist to satisfy any home defense or tactical need you may have. It’s the great American fighting shotgun. If you want an affordable, easy-to-find, capable shotgun, then the 590 has you covered.
4. Ruger 10/22
The Ruger 10/22 is as American as Apple Pie, Baseball, and Type 2 diabetes. The famed rimfire rifle is easily the most popular rimfire rifle in the world. Millions of these semi-auto, magazine-fed rifles exist and occupy the hands of shooters of all skill levels. This legendary rifle is a perfect working gun, a great plinker, and even an awesome option for competitions like Steel Challenge. It’s been a great seller for Ruger since it was released in 1964. As far as .22LR rifles go, there still isn’t one better than the Ruger 10/22.
5. Henry Big Boy
The Henry Big Boy was quite a surprise to see on this list. The Big Boy series is Henry Centerfire lever guns that use calibers like the famed .44 Magnum and .45 Colt, plus some slightly smaller fellas like the .327 Federal Magnum and the .357 Magnum. The Big Boy lever guns are some of the best on the market and are certainly proof that Americans still love the gun that won the West. Henry is the name for American-made lever action rifles, so don’t be surprised when the name Henry pops up once more.
6. Glock 19
The Glock 19 is the closest thing Glock has to a flagship handgun. The 19 series is Glock’s compact 9mm handgun and is best described as a jack of all trades as far as handguns go. The Glock 19 can be used for concealed carry but can also be spun up for home defense. The Glock 19 is the perfect size to maximize control of the weapon without it being too big or tough to conceal. Further, the Glock 19 is currently in its fifth generation and comes in the famed MOS variant for an optics-ready option. If you need one gun with a proven reputation, then the Glock 19 is the way to go.
7. Glock 43
Another spot on the list occupied by Glock is the Glock 43. The Glock 43 is another 9mm Glock but is radically different in size than the Glock 19. The Glock 43 is a subcompact, single-stack 9mm handgun. Why the single stack nine genres have been largely outshined by micro compacts like the P365, the Glock 43 remains a strong seller. Glock’s reputation is one of the best, and it’s clearly helping them sell single stack 9mms. The Glock 43 still offers a very small and lightweight handgun for daily carry, and its reputation for reliability sells itself.
8. CZ 75
I am both surprised and pleasantly pleased that the CZ 75 has made the list. By 2023 standards, the CZ 75 is ancient, with its design dating back to 1975 and being found behind the Iron Curtain. Plus, it’s all metal and uses a hammer-fired DA/SA design. In 2023, it’s all about polymer frames and striker-fired designs. The CZ 75 is deliciously old school and still an overall excellent firearm. If you like amazing ergonomics, awesome reliability, low recoil, and real steel, then the CZ 75 series is for you!
9. Henry Side Gate Lever Action
Another Henry made the list, which is another nice surprise. The ninth best-selling gun is the Henry Side Gate Lever Action rifle. Henry clung to the original Henry design with a front tube loading design. That’s fine, but a side-loading gun is faster, more efficient, and easier to use. The Henry Side Gate, Lever Action rifles, come in proper rifle calibers. Not big bore pistol rounds, but American classics like .30-30, .45-70, .35 Remington, and even new whippersnappers like .360 Buckhammer. These rifles feature buckhorn sights but are also drilled and tapped if you want to add a rail and follow up with a scope.
10. Ruger American Rifle
Ruger having two guns on the list isn’t a crazy thought, but the Ruger American Rifle is an interesting option. This bolt-action rifle series brings affordable precision to the American marketplace. Ruger has chambered the American rifle in just about every caliber out there, including oddballs for bolt guns like the 7.62x39mm. The Ruger American Rifle series are hot enough sellers that we got a Gen 2 at SHOT 2024, so maybe it’s not that big of a surprise. Affordable, American-made firearms will always be popular, and that’s Ruger’s bread and butter.
