Sig Sauer has announced a new bolt-action rifle to the renowned CROSS family with the new CROSS TRAX rifle. This new variant of the CROSS rifle brings a lighter and shorter option to the bolt action CROSS family, all while delivering the performance the family is known for.
The new CROSS TRAX bolt action rifle is chambered in .308 Winchester, in keeping with the backcountry long-range dynamic of the CROSS family of rifles. The TRAX model takes what was built with the original CROSS bolt-action rifle up a notch with new lightweight or low-profile features. The first updated feature is the new ultra-lightweight skeletonized 11.5-inch handguard which free floats around the stainless steel barrel, featuring a Picatinny rail.
The next lightweight upgrade is the new Minimalist folding stock. Truly a minimalist option, there isn’t much to the stock compared to the stocks of other CROSS rifles, but it still delivers to Sig’s standards. The other new feature is the low profile no-snag design of the bolt knob and handle. This means there is less chance of the bolt knob and handle catching on to things while the shooter is in the field.
The CROSS TRAX bolt-action rifle features a 16-inch tapered Precision stainless steel barrel, which looks to be threaded, so it’s suppressor- or muzzle brake ready out of the box. The frame is constructed from aluminum with a black anodized finish, so the rifle is as durable as it is light. Speaking of being light, the CROSS TRAX with the 5-round magazine weighs in at just a touch over 6 pounds, making it .4 of a pound lighter than the original CROSS rifle.
The new SIG CROSS TRAX has an overall folded length of 26 inches and an unfolded length of 35 inches. Sig Sauer recommends using Elite Hunter-tipped ammunition to get the utmost out of the rifle for accuracy and on-target performance. The CROSS TRAX is available now and has an MSRP of $1,399.99.
