SHOT 2023: Benelli M2 Field Shotgun

Shotguns aren’t all the same, and when you require the right one for field work, it has to be rugged, reliable, and made to withstand the elements. Benelli’s M2 Field Shotgun has done just that for more than two decades, and now the popular model is upgraded to be even better. The renowned gun maker enhanced various features for comfort and reliable function, and somehow managed to do it at a lower price point. The new Benelli M2 Field Shotgun has to be seen to be believed. Read on to learn more.

Benelli states the M2 Field is “workhorse rugged with Thoroughbred speed.” With the introduction of an upgraded, enhanced line of shotguns, this model is set to outdo shotgunners’ already high expectations.

The M2 Field shotguns in 12- and 20-gauge have a variety of fantastic features including an updated stock, forend, and receiver design. A sleeker profile helps the stock and forend blend seamlessly for both a smooth aesthetic and reduced risk of snags and bumps during use. There’s also a longer grip surface on the forend, meaning shooters have plenty of real estate to grip, which translates to increased comfort and greater accuracy.

The bolt release button, which had a round profile, is now a longer bar shape designed for ease of operation even when wearing gloves. As for the buttstock, it’s also been redesigned. It now has an extended AirTouch surface for fantastic traction which is a must for bird hunters whose hands are likely to be wet or heavily gloved.

Benelli’s new Micro Cell recoil pad is also featured in this stock upgrade. It’s a one-piece unit made to work with a corrosion-resistant recoil tube and stainless-steel spring, all of which reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise (and, again, that translates to greater accuracy and longer live fire sessions). Micro Cell recoil pads are available separately in different widths for shooters wanting to change the length-of-pull adjustment from 14 3/8 inches to 13 7/8 or, on compact models, from 13 1/8 inches to 14 3/4 inches.

The new M2 Field’s bolt has been revised as well to provide smooth, quiet operation with even greater strength and efficiency than before. As expected, it will continue to deliver flawless cycling with any loads thanks to Benelli’s Inertia Driven System. The shotgun continues to benefit from Benelli’s standard Crio-treated barrels and choke tubes which are designed for durability and consistent accuracy.
