Owyhee Magnum: a .22 WMR Takedown Rifle

Oh-WYE-hee. That’s how you pronounce the rifle line. Dubya Em Arrr is how you pronounce the caliber of the newest iteration of that line. This is the Tactical Solutions (TacSol) 22 WMR Takedown Rifle. It’s the only production takedown rifle in 22 WMR that I’m aware of (and if not, hit us in the comments).

Owyhee TD Magnum Overview

The .22 Mag version of the compact, suppressor-ready Owyhee Takedown Rifle has a number of features that lend themselves to good performance and a good time. Those include:

  • Push-button-twist style mechanism for takedown and re-assembly.
  • A drilled and tapped receiver for the addition of an optics rail (scope, LPVO, magnified prism, etc.)
  • Fiber optic front sight and adjustable rear sight.
  • An OG style behind-the-trigger safety.
  • Threaded barrel for silencers or related muzzle devices.
  • Lightweight aluminum barrel with a chromoly steel bore and 11-degree target crown.
  • Nine-round capacity magazine.
  • Extended magazine release for simple and speedy magazine removal.

That last feature isn’t as much to make it more tactically relevant for doing battle with dangerous small game and unruly varmints as it is to make your range time a hell of a lot more fun. Or maybe it’s both, your mileage may vary.

As you’d expect of a takedown rifle, the Owyhee 22 WMR is very light — as in just a smidge more than four pounds light. You’ll track past animal scat that weighs more than that, depending on what you’re hunting — though if that’s the case you might want to size up your caliber.

The Owyhee TD Magnum uses a modified Magpul X-22 Backpacker Stock, which attaches the barrel assembly to the stock body for compact storage and “packability.” Plenty of people love those Magpul stocks so you’ll be able to find numerous reviews if you’re still performing your due diligence before making a purchase.
