GPS Tactical Handgunner Backpack Review

There are hundreds of range bags on the market today. Amid that sea of shooting gear, we’ll take a look at yet another one—the GPS Tactical Handgunner Backpack. Is it a worthwhile purchase?

What does this one do that others do not?

The GPS Tactical Handgunner Backpack allows you to carry handguns, ammunition, magazines, and other items in a compact form. The carry shelf in one compartment will accept up to four handguns.

It provides protection for your gear.

The pack is water resistant, so your equipment will be protected from the elements should bad weather strike. To make it even better, there is a rainfly that conceals inside a zipper at the top of the pack so the user can pull it out in the event of a downpour. Many of us know the frustration of getting home to find that our beloved shooting gear is soaked from the rain.

It’s comfortable to carry.

The carry straps of the GPS Tactical Handgunner Backpack are padded and have moisture-wicking material, so the pack can be carried in comfort. Many shooters report carrying upwards of 40-50 pounds of gear in the pack without forfeiting comfort.

You can keep your gear organized.

There are many compartments in the pack, with the top compartment mainly intended for ear protection. You could use it for just about anything you desired, though, it doesn’t have to be ear protection. Two additional pouches that are immediately evident are for eye protection and hearing protection. There is also a zippered admin pouch in this larger compartment. The fact that the pouches have pouches inside really shows that they put a lot of thought into this piece of equipment, and is huge for organizing the million-and-one things that we sometimes drag to the shooting range. You don’t want to be at the range and realize you forgot an important piece of gear.

It has a pistol rack!

The main part of the pack, as mentioned, holds four handguns. GPS states that the compartments are intended for semi-automatic handguns, but small revolvers seem to work as well. As an added bonus, the handgun rack can be removed from the compartment. The channels that the pistols are stored in are cut and molded to keep the pistols from flopping around inside when carried. This is another obvious forethought by the makers and a very nice touch.

If you remove the pistol rack from that compartment, there is a rigid frame inside to keep the pack nicely formed. You could store other items in there should you choose to do so.

Moving on, two sides pockets (one on each side of the pack) hold up to six single- or double-stack magazines each for maximum firepower and quick reloads. In addition to the magazine storage pouches, there is another admin-type storage pouch on each side of the pack. There’s a pouch inside there for storing target tacks or other little items. More magazines or ammo could be stored in these pouches, as well as a cleaning kit or anything that you can think of, really.

So Is the GPS Tactical Handgunner Backpack Worth It?

Obviously, this backpack is geared toward pistols, so it’s slightly specialized as far as gear goes. However, for what it was designed for, it seems to do it in fine style! There are lots of pouches, and within those pouches are other pouches to keep smaller items secured. That will save you from having to dig through the depths of your range bag, which means more time shooting on the range and less frustration. I like the fact that the designers really geared this backpack toward making the life of the shooter easier and more organized.

I’m betting that they know the frustration of traveling all the way to the range only to realize that they forgot a key piece of equipment. Driving all the way back home is such a drag. This GPS Tactical Handgunner Backpack looks like something worthwhile. The fact that you can fit a few handguns into it and you don’t have to lug three separate range bags around for one range trip just makes it all the more convenient. And when I think of this bag, that is the word that comes to mind—convenience.

Is this piece of kit worth it? I sure think so. Both from an organizational standpoint and the fact that it can tote quite a bit of gear comfortably. This one looks like a winner.
