Although some guns are meant to perform for niche situations, versatility is a huge plus much of the time. That goes for AR pistols, too; it’s useful to have an AR pistol that can be used for a variety of applications. After all, they’re portable and easy to wield. Extar’s latest, the EP45, is the answer to gun owners looking for a reliable AR pistol chambered in 45 ACP. The Extar EP45 is a PDW (personal defense weapon) made with defensive use in mind and myriad other uses possible.

Extar designed the EP45 as a big-bore PDW meant to offer security options to gun owners. Even so, it’s versatile enough to be used for home defense or fun at the range. Features include the proven Extar Dynamic Feed Control system, Proprietary Recoil Damping System, and AR-15 controls. The gun also has an M-LOK handguard for easy addition of aftermarket accessories and the new Extar Pistol Protective Cover. Even better, it’s compatible with Glock 21 magazines. The company promises that the EP45 delivers superior 45 ACP performance.
Regarding the patent-pending Extar Dynamic Feed Control, the gun maker states they created it for the purpose of superior feeding. It uses constant physical surface contact with the round during chambering, resulting in reliable loading and feeding regardless of the specific bullet being used. The Dynamic Feed Control is combined with the company’s blowback system and proprietary Extar Recoil Damper which helps mitigate felt recoil while simultaneously regulating bolt speed. This is all accomplished without adding more moving parts that could need regular cleaning or replacement.

Extar says the gun was made by shooters, for shooters, and that it shares all the comforts of the popular Extar EP9, only in a larger caliber. The EP45 is designed for familiar, easy handling, and is meant to be user-friendly for shooters with a wide variety of skill sets. It has a 6.5-inch barrel that’s threaded and ships with a Blast Director muzzle device, making it maneuverable and increasing customization options.
The M-LOK handguard has a trio of mounting slots at the three, six, and nine positions so users can decide where to mount accessories. It also ships with the gun maker’s Extar PDW Pistol Grip, single-stage steel fire control group, and a full-length Picatinny rail for whatever optics the user prefers.
