ZEV Technologies Launches Core Combat Rifle Series

ZEV Technologies has announced the availability of a new rifle line: the Core Combat Rifle Series. The new Zev long guns will be available in .223 Wylde, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .308 Winchester. The Core Combat Rifle AR15s and AR10s are direct descendants of rifles built by Mega Arms, a company widely respected for its high production quality.

Details of the AR10 versions aren’t yet available on ZEV’s website, but we can give you a rundown on the .223 Wylde version.

ZEV Core Combat Rifle AR15

The CCR AR15 is 34 inches long and weighs six pounds. It starts with forged upper and lower aluminum receivers and is finished in either black or FDE Cerakote. Notable features include the following:

ZEV’s Wedge Lock Handguard: The handguard top rail essentially runs like a spine along the entire length of the gun, providing a long stretch of M-LOK mount real estate for optics, lights, lasers, offset sights, etc. It has an integrated anti-rotation pin ZEV says will ensure the rail consistently aligns with the upper receiver.

“Duty weight” Two-Stage Trigger: They don’t specify what “duty weight” is, but the two-stage trigger will appeal to those shooters who prefer that type of trigger.`

The new Core Combat Rifle series ships with an excellent lineup of Magpul, Radian, and of course, Zev’s own accessories.

Ambidextrous Controls: Radian Weapons Talon: Again, ambi controls are something many people like. I’m not one of them, but I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority. And if you’re going to use ambi controls, Radian certainly makes a good product.

“Low Profile” Fixed Gas Block: This is advantageous because it increases reliability while consistently delivering the same amount of gas. The disadvantage is that a fixed gas block eliminates the possibility of “fine-tuning” to suit specific ammunition types, the use of a suppressor, etc. Cycling problems in a fixed gas block rifle typically have to be solved in other ways (i.e., modifying a buffer assembly, bolt carrier group, etc.). A fixed block is probably fine unless you’re savvy and comfortable with adjusting your gas system (and many people are not). Perhaps even preferable.
