PMXs Semi-Auto Pistol: New from Beretta

Beretta USA has announced a new pistol form of their PMX line of submachine guns: the Beretta PMXs. Early in the release, they say that after “…years of refinement of the PMXfor military and law enforcement…around the globe, the PMXs has been translated into a semi-automatic pistol variant…” They can say that because of how and where its select-fire predecessors have served, particularly in Italy’s gendarmerie, the Carabinier, and some more “spicy” locations with internal unrest or counter-insurgency going on.

The original PMX, itself a descendent of the Beretta M12, debuted at the massive Milipol convention in Paris in late 2017, then shortly after here in the U.S. at SHOT Show 2018. The Beretta PMXs was announced last week and was on display this past weekend at NRAAM 2023.

Thanks to recent ATF actions, the PMXs is not equipped with a pistol brace. Nor does it have a stock, obviously, because that would subject it to NFA restrictions. If you look at the rear end, however, you can see there is a feature in place to allow for a retrofitted stock or brace should that become desired or necessary. Something we reiterate should be done legally.

Beretta PMXs various aspects
The 9mm Beretta PMXs utilizes a 30-round magazine as its standard capacity mag.

The PMXs is a blowback-operated weapon, which means it harnesses the expanding gas generated by an ignited cartridge to cycle the weapon. It features ambidextrous controls, rail space on the top and sides for the obligatory attachments, and quick detach (QD) points (usually there for slings). Put a weapon-mounted light on it before you do anything else to church it up.

The use of polymer components keeps the weight down, and a 1/2″ x 28 threaded barrel provides a ready option for various muzzle devices, from comps to cans.
