FN America is finally joining the Micro 9 movement: This is the FN Reflex. The Reflex is FN’s first counterpart to the Glock slimline/Sig P365/Springfield Hellcat class of CCW pistols. It’s available in both a slick-top and optics-ready version.
The Reflex is chambered in 9x19mm and ships with one 11-round and one 15-round magazine — and although they don’t mention it in the release, it looks like there will be a 10-round version as well. In addition to the obligatory extra mag purchase most of us would make, there’s a good chance we’ll see FN or aftermarket extendos before too terribly long. However, given how long FN waited before debuting its own micro-compact, that cannot be taken as a given.
Things to Know
Here are a few salient points distilled down from the release:
- It’s 1 inch wide, 4.25 inches tall, and 6.2 inches long overall, weighing 18.4 ounces.
- Like some of its predecessors (looking at you FN509!) it has a low bore axis.
- An accessory rail is in place for your lights and lasers.
- Initial magazine options are 11-round with pinky and flush-fit base pads or 15-round for a full-hand grip.
- It utilizes an SAO internal hammer design FN calls an “…impressive, best-in-class trigger…[with] a consistent take-up to the wall [and] a crisp break at approximately 5 pounds.”
- The 3.3-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged with a target crown.
- Its 6.2-inch slide has front and rear cocking serrations for slide manipulation, press checks, etc.
- Both models are equipped with three-dot iron sights (orange dot tritium insert up front): sight radius is 5.05 inches.
- MRD versions have a factory-milled slide for optics that utilize the Shield RMSc/Holosun K footprint.
- It features “multiple redundant safeties” in the fire control group for safety and reliability.
- It has an in-mold stippled texture for the palm and a vertical scale texture on the front and back of the grip.
