Sig Sauer ROMEO5 Gen 1 vs Gen 2: A Comparison
The Sig Sauer ROMEO5 is a step above the MSR series but isn't quite up there with the ROMEO4 or ROMEO8. The ROMEO5 famously retails for less than $200 and consistently performs well above its price point. They are my favorite budget optics and are the options I suggest to new gun owners just looking for a simple optical option. The company recently quietly released a Gen 2 to the famed ROMEO5 series. Let's dig in and see if the ROMEO5 Gen 2 should replace all the Gen 1s on your guns.
A Review of The New Vortex Viper HD 11-33×50 Spotting Scope
The Vortex Viper spotting scope played well with the local area. It allows the user to see at distances exceeding a quarter mile easily. Even at a half mile, which is nearly a thousand yards, I could see street signs, tell you their color and, in most cases, what they indicated.
1791 Gunleather: Quality Pistol Packin’ Leather
I received three holsters for this review. Two are inside-the-waistband (IWB) models, while the third one is an outside-the-waistband (OWB) system. I mostly wear IWB these days, but I wanted to try one of their OWB holsters to get a feel for how they work. I'm happy to report favorably! Let's take a look.
The PSA Dagger: Why Did I Wait So Long?
The PSA Dagger Compact has been convincing skeptics for years, and now I'm adding my name to the list. If you are looking for a solid compact 9mm, this may be the place to start.
The MP320: Sig Sauer’s PDW Attempt
Sig Sauer has made an excellent chassis system with the MP320. Oddly, they are limiting it to such small numbers. They did a fantastic job, and the package is very well made. The MP320 handles well, offers enhanced accuracy, and is reliable. I might swap the dot for something more compact, add a light, and likely use the QD cup for a sling. Then I'll be cooking with gas.
The Walther PPK/S in .32 ACP: The Bond Choice
The Walther PPK/S in .32 ACP is my favorite of the Walther PPK series. The grip is just right, the recoil is almost nothing, and I can carry up to nine rounds. By modern standards, nine rounds of .32 ACP isn't much. The P365 is about the same size and offers ten rounds of 9mm. Still, polymer-frame, ultra-efficient modern handguns will never be as stylish as the PPK/S in .32 ACP.
Bear Creek Arsenal BC-201: Target Ready Rimfire on a Budget
Bear Creek Arsenal went in boldly to revive a semi-auto .17 and .22 Magnum. My take on the Bear Creek Arsenal BC 201 is not a referendum on those designs. It is Bear Creek's take on playing it safe with a base platform that is proven to be reliable and familiar to many shooters but aesthetically upgraded and accurized at a price point not much beyond what one would pay for a stock rifle. Whether you are a dedicated paper puncher or small game hunter, the BCA 201 is an option worth a look.
The Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0: The Ultimate Carry Gun
The Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 completely redeems my opinion of the Bodyguard .380 lineup. It's a very capable little gun that performs admirably. I'm utterly shocked, to be honest. I'm seriously considering replacing my current pocket gun with the Bodyguard. It's a bit of poetic justice that I'm strapping a Bodyguard .380 on when it was the gun that initially deterred me from pocket carry.
Magnum Calibers vs 9mm: Is Bigger Better?
While not the biggest debate, are big bore magnum calibers still capable carry handguns? Let's compare .44 Magnum to 9mm to find out.
The High Standard Model 10: A 1970s Bullpup Shotgun
Shotguns excel at close range, and bullpups excel at close range. It's just tough to find someone who's done it right. So far, the KelTec KS7 has won, but a competent semi-auto would be preferred. Sadly, it wasn't the Model 10.
