Glocks are a lot like ARs. They can do a good bit of everything. But I never expected a Glock to be capable of becoming a bullpup rifle. Well, apparently, I’m nowhere near as creative as Meta Tactical. They introduced the Meta Tactical Apex kit to turn your favorite Glock pistol into a 9mm, bullpup carbine.
How, you ask? Well, I had to ask the same thing. First, you gotta tackle the NFA, right? Well, to do so, Meta Tactical ships the Apex with a drop-in, threaded 16-inch barrel. You drop that barrel inside your Glock pistol. Next, you open the rear of the Apex, slide the Glock with the barrel in, and lock it down. You close the rear, and boom, now your Glock is the firing mechanism for a bullpup carbine.
It’s really ingenious. I stopped by Meta Tactical’s booth, and they gave me a full demonstration. They plan to start shipping the first generation this year for Glock series pistols. After that, they plan to embrace S&W, Springfield, 1911s, and more.
Hands-On With the Meta Tactical Apex
Sadly, I couldn’t fire an Apex stock system live, but I got to see and handle one. It’s a super short and relatively easy handling design. We have an ambidextrous charging handle, a massive magazine release, and compatibility with extended magazines.
With the Meta Tactical Apex, we get a full-length optic rail, as well as M-LOK slots on the front for whatever accessory you could ever want. It turns a standard Glock into a handy little carbine. No permanent mods are necessary, and it’s an interesting way to go from handgun to PCC.
It’s super easy to handle, and the controls are placed well. Reloads might be awkward, but they always are with a bullpup. The kit’s only a hair over 26 inches, so it’s compact and perfect for home defense.
One area of concern for me with these Glock-to-rifle type kits is the ejection port. Improper ejection makes it really easy for the guns to get a hard-to-fix complicated malfunction. However, the ejection port on the Apex seems massive, and Meta Tactical seemed to think it through.
Price-wise, look to invest 600 dollars into the Meta Tactical Apex kit. This will include the stop, barrel, and flash hider. Pre-orders are open now, and look for delivery later this year.
