It’s better to have more ammo than not enough. We limit how much we carry because of magazine size and weight, but it can never hurt to have a few more rounds, right? If you already have some Glock magazines you want to extend, the mag extension by Tyrant Designs CNC is a great option. I attached some of these to my Glock 19 to make them 20-round mags. I could have used a higher-capacity mag without an extender but there are a few reasons I like to use extenders instead of higher-capacity mags. Installing them is easy and they look great too.

Who is Tyrant Designs CNC?
Tyrant Designs is based out of Chicago and is known for its innovative designs. The company invented the skeletonized AR-15 grip and offers a long line of custom parts for Glock, Sig Sauer, Springfield, AR-15 rifles, and more. Buying US-made products is a plus for me. They offer a lifetime warranty on everything they sell, showing the confidence they have in their own product.
When buying an after-market product there are two things to look for: quality and appearance. Some people upgrade a part because they want that custom look. Others make upgrades for better performance. What makes good companies stand out is their ability to make a product that has both qualities. After using Tyrant CNC for a while, I feel comfortable saying they have successfully done both.
Mag Extender
This magazine extender is CNC machined from aerospace-grade aluminum for superior strength, light weight, and longevity. It utilizes a retention plunger technology that slides onto the bottom of your magazine without tools needed for installation in under 10 seconds! This allows you to get your gun out of storage and on the range faster than ever before! Just push down to lock it into place, slide to remove, and repeat the process whenever necessary.

Tyrant Designs offers these magazine extenders in a range of colors. All are great looking and sure to stand out on your gun. Some are bolder than others, but they all look fantastic. There are some tactical advantages to using mag extenders, but they also give your Glock a custom touch that will really stand out. But it’s not just about looks, it’s also about improving your tactical advantage for self-defense.
Ergonomics of the Mag Extender
The primary benefit of using a magazine extension for your Glock 19 is to enhance its ergonomics. Having more surface area to grip onto when changing magazines gives you better control and allows the mags to drop free more quickly. Competitors can benefit from having less downtime between stages.
But wait, that’s not all. The added weight from the base pad helps empty magazines more quickly. For many concealed carriers who use small-framed handguns for everyday carry, a magazine extension can help them get more capacity and grip on their gun. These mags also add a little bit more real estate to the pistol, which can improve ergonomics.
For Glocks, Tyrant Designs offers a mag extension that can be installed in just 10 seconds by any shooter. The Glock 19 isn’t a small gun, but it is just the right size for use with a mag extender. One of the best ways to increase your gun’s overall effectiveness is to have more rounds on board. Whether it’s for self-defense or competition, having more rounds will help you do your job better.
Installing the Tyrant Mag Extension
The Tyrant CNC Mag Extender for Glock 19 is easy to install because it has retention plunger technology that allows the base pad to easily slide on and off of your factory magazine. The hardest part is removing the existing floor plate from the magazine. I use the Real Avid Glock Mag Tool which makes this whole process even faster.
The new mag extender will replace everything on the old mag except the follower and magazine itself. The current floorplate, insert, and spring need to be removed from the magazine. I would place these items in a zip-lock bag and label them in case you need them again in the future.

Once the old parts are off, the new spring and base can be installed. The new spring is much longer than the old one because the magazine is being extended to hold five more rounds (or four rounds for .40 caliber). The old floor plate has a small hole in the bottom of the plate that needs to be pushed in to remove it. The new Tyrant extender has a spring-loaded plunger on the back of it that makes installing much easier.
Once the new spring is in the magazine, simply push the new extender onto the magazine until you hear it click in place. To remove it, push down on the plunger and it will slide back off. This makes it easy to switch if you want to change colors or move the extender to a different magazine.

Summary
The shape and texture of the Tyrant Designs Mag Extension gives the gun more of a grip to hang on to. It also helps with drawing the magazine from a mag pouch which increases your speed during mag changes. I’ve spent a lot of time on the range with both standard and extended mags, and the extended versions are easier for me to grab and load. The quality is top notch as with any Tyrant products I have used. The texture on the side of the mag extension is nice and the finish looks great.
The extender maximizes space on the mag and brings 15 rounds to 20 while improving the grip. They can be carried in the gun or work great as backup mags. When I carry concealed, I like to carry a flush-fitting mag in the gun and an extended mag on my belt. When I’m on duty, I carry the extended mag in my gun and another two on my belt. If you have a Glock and don’t have an extended mag, you can’t go wrong with Tyrant Designs CNC.
