About the IMI Galil

Originally released in 1972, the IMI® Galil is an Israeli-made selective-fire combat rifle, chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO or 7.62x51mm NATO. The IMI Galil utilizes a hammer-fired trigger mechanism with a single sear for both semi-auto or full-auto fire, and the barrel comes equipped with a long, slotted, and ported flash hider which also doubles as a rifle grenade launcher. Designed around the Kalashnikov-pattern gas-driven piston system with a forged receiver and enhanced gas system, the Galil is often celebrated as one of the most successful combat rifles ever produced, having served in major conflicts and peace-keeping missions all over the world for more than 50 years.

Are All Galil Rifles the Same?

At more than 50 years old, it’s no surprise that the Galil has undergone a variety of improvements, iterations, and variations. Further, due to the proven successes on the battlefield, the IWI Galil was adopted and pressed into service by more than 50 countries worldwide. Not all countries opted for the same chambering, fire controls, or accessories, resulting in a multitude of Galil variants including the AR, SAR, ARM, Micro, Sniper, Magal, Golani, ACE, MA variants, among others. Each variation features differing chamberings, receiver designs, furniture, stock styles, and so on.
