Walther WMP: Middleweight Featherweight .22 Magnum

The Walther WMP (Walther Magnum Pistol) is the first .22 Magnum handgun from Walther Arms. Chambered in 22 WMR vs 22 LR, this is not a petite handgun.

Walther says, “This isn’t just another target practice plinker, Walther has developed a high quality, lightweight, easy-to-shoot, and affordable pistol for shooters who want to stay READY as part of their active outdoor lifestyle.”

Walther WMP: Middleweight Featherweight

The Walther WMP isn’t a petite or delicate framed handgun by any means. In fact, it’s a little bigger than other guns in its weight class, including Kel-Tec’s PMR-30 and Rock Island’s XT-22. The differences are more obvious in contrast to other .22 pistols like the Glock 44 and SIG’s P22, but those are chambered in 22 LR, not 22 WMR. The WMP has an overall length of 8.2 in., 4.5 inches of which is the barrel. It weighs just a smidge lighter than 22 ounces.

We’re told the WMP features what they call the Quad Release, which is a “…first-time patented ambidextrous reloading mechanism incorporating both paddle and button releases….[with] 4 total activation points.,..”

They describe it as “…the most versatile ambidextrous mag release ever created.” It will ship with two flush-fit 15-round Walther WMP magazines (or 10-round WMP mags if legal restrictions so militate) and a pair of optics adapter plates.

Walther WMP mags will initially be available in 15-round capacity, though 10-round magazines will be available for those who live in restricted areas.

Walther says,

“In life, sometimes the unexpected can happen. Whether it’s an opportunity for fun and recreation or maybe even a life-threatening situation, it’s your duty to be READY. So, when it’s time to hit the outdoors and you need a reliable firearm at your side, the unique Walther Magnum Pistol (WMP )22 magnum semi-automatic, is the only choice. This isn’t just another target practice plinker, Walther has developed a high quality, lightweight, easy-to-shoot, and affordable pistol for shooters who want to stay READY as part of their active outdoor lifestyle.”
