US Army Approves BFG Slings and B5 Stocks for the M4

A good sling is to your rifle what a good holster is to your pistol — and a little more. Slings are a tool if they’re employed properly. That’s a truism whether you’re in cammies or civvies.

Blue Force Gear (BFG) makes great slings — there are three in my safe right now. They’ve been supporting gyrenes for years with the USMC’s issued sling. Now, happily for Army Joes, the US Army has authorized a BFG sling for use with the M4. Both black and tan versions are good to go.

Blue Force Gear sling gets authorization and NSN.
Blue Force Gear sling is now an “authorized attachment” for the M4 and has an NSN.

The Blue Force Gear patented Push Button Sling (that’s a name and a description) can be ordered through the Global Combat Support System (GCSS-A) using the following National Stock Numbers (NSNs):

  • Vickers Push Button quick-adjustable sling (Tan) NSN 1005-01-707-1744
  • Vickers Push Button quick-adjustable sling (Black) NSN 1005-01-625-4470

Soldiers can buy at the individual level, too.

Chris Sizelove (retired 75TH Ranger Regiment and Defense Intelligence Agency soldier) is BFG’s Director of Training. Here’s how the former SOF hitter describes slings. Whether you care about an NSN sling or not, this is worth a read-through.

“The modern combat sling is probably the most overlooked and underutilized tool that—when properly sized, mounted, and employed—is the cheapest and most effective component for immediately enhancing a soldier’s lethality and safety.”

That doesn’t just apply to soldiers, obviously.

Additional Modern Buttstock Options Approved

The Army has also approved a couple of buttstock options, which honestly ought to be its own release article…though maybe I’m biased. I’ve had an Enhanced SOPMOD or a B5 Bravo stock on most or all my long guns for years (and I’m fixin’ to get the new-ish buttpad that holds a Magpod, too). I prefer the Bravo, mostly because I always forget about whatever’s in the SOPMOD storage compartments anyway, so why not go a little sleeker? Providentially, the B5 Systems Bravo stock now also has its own NSNs:

  • B5 Systems Bravo (Black) NSN 1005-01-706-2373
  • B5 Systems Bravo (Tan) NSN 1005-01-706-2510

You can find more detail in the individual product links. #markkellerlikesthis
