When it comes to upgrading your AR-15, the stock is the easiest thing to change. It’s not just for looks, either. Having the right stock will greatly improve how you perform with the rifle. It impacts the comfort, accuracy, and overall ergonomics of the rifle.
Luth-AR offers some awesome accessories for AR-15 rifles and their line of MBA stocks is really growing on me. This line of MBA (Modular Buttstock Assembly) stocks is designed to meet the needs of various shooters. While there are five base models in the MBA line, my favorites are the MBA-1, MBA-4, and MBA-5.
Each stock has unique features that make it suitable for different applications. But first, let’s take a brief look at Luth-AR’s history and innovative products.
A Brief History of Luth-AR
Luth-AR was founded by Randy Luth, a pioneer in the firearms industry with over three decades of experience. If you haven’t heard of Randy Luth before, you may have heard of his previous company. Randy started a small company called D.P.M.S. that manufactured AR-15 rifles. He led D.P.M.S. until the company was sold in 2007 as one of the largest manufacturers of AR-15 rifles in the world.
With Luth-AR, Randy aims to continue his legacy of innovation and quality in the firearms market. The company’s mission is to provide affordable, high-quality parts that enhance the performance of AR-15 rifles.
Luth-AR specializes in modular buttstocks, handguards, grips, and other AR-15 accessories. Their products are designed with input from shooters, ensuring they meet the needs of both recreational and professional users. The MBA series of stocks is particularly popular for its versatility, lightweight design, and ease of installation.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s look at the specifics of my three favorite Luth-AR MBA stocks.
MBA-1 Stock
The Luth-AR MBA-1 stock is a fixed rifle stock designed for AR-15 and AR-10 platforms. It combines classic design with modern materials and functionality. While the stock is lightweight and somewhat simplistic in appearance, it’s customizable. It weighs just 1.26 pounds, which isn’t bad for a stock that can be customized.
Made from high-strength glass-filled nylon, it provides robustness and reliability in the field. It features an adjustable cheek rest and length of pull (LOP), allowing shooters to customize their rifles for maximum comfort and precision. The LOP can be adjusted from 13.5 to 15.5 inches, accommodating a wide range of shooting styles and body types.
The MBA-1 has multiple sling attachment points, including slots for QD (Quick Detach) sling swivels. This makes it easy to attach and detach slings, enhancing the rifle’s versatility. The stock also has a built-in Picatinny rail for mounting monopods or other accessories, further increasing its adaptability. Overall, the MBA-1 is a solid choice for shooters who prefer a fixed stock with customizable features and a lightweight design.
MBA-4 Stock
The MBA-4 stock is a collapsible, carbine-style stock that brings modularity and adjustability to the forefront. Like the MBA 1, it has an adjustable cheek-rest and buttstock. This is nice for those who want to set their stock up to their preference. At just 0.75 pounds, it’s also lightweight, making it one of the lightest stocks in the MBA series. Its lightweight construction does not sacrifice durability, as it is built from high-strength glass-filled nylon as well.
One of the key features of the MBA-4 is its six-position adjustability. This allows shooters to quickly adjust the stock’s length of pull to suit their preferences or accommodate different shooting scenarios. The MBA-4’s adjustable nature makes it ideal for both close-quarters engagements and longer-range shooting.
As I mentioned earlier, the cheek rest can be adjusted for height, making it perfect for those who use optic risers. Even when extended all the way up, the cheek rest is sturdy and doesn’t move at all. Like the others, this stock features multiple QD sling attachment points, but a Magpul insert is needed for a QD attachment.
This stock is perfect for a quick swap on a standard AR adjustable buffer tube. Besides the benefits of an adjustable cheek weld, the stock looks great on just about any AR-15 rifle.
MBA-5 Stock
The MBA-5 stock is another outstanding option in the Luth-AR lineup, designed to provide a balance of adjustability and comfort. Like the MBA-4, it is a collapsible stock that is closer to a standard AR stock than the other MBA stocks. There is no cheek rest or adjustable buttstock, keeping things simple and practical. An adjustable lever under the stock makes it easy to adjust within seconds.
Constructed from the same high-strength glass-filled nylon as its counterparts, ensuring durability and reliability. It includes multiple QD sling attachment points, enhancing its versatility. Additionally, the stock features a rubber but pad that provides extra comfort and reduces felt recoil. This makes it an excellent choice for shooters who spend long hours at the range or in the field.
I like the adjustable cheek-weld and but plate on the MBA 1, but for everyday use, this is probably my favorite stock. The Magpul insert for the QD attachment is only a few dollars and is easy to install. This one runs about $49.99, which isn’t bad for a high-quality stock.
Check Out Luth-AR
Luth-AR’s MBA series of stocks offers many options. The MBA-1, MBA-4, and MBA-5 each have unique features, making them ideal for various applications. For those wanting to use the MBA-1 fixed stock, Luth-AR sells a kit with an A2 buffer tube, spring, and weight. This kit allows you to swap out your standard 6-position stock with a fixed stock.
Regardless of the style of stock you choose, Luth-AR has plenty of options for multiple setups. Their customer service is excellent, and they offer plenty of other products besides their MBA line of stocks. If you haven’t had a chance to see what they offer, check them out and see if they have your next AR-15 upgrade.
