Springfield Armory Announces New Prodigy in the 1911 Class for Restrictive Locations

A “Prodigy” is someone or something that may show exceptional qualities, which could be a fitting description for Springfield Armory‘s line of 1911 semi-automatic pistols. The firearms maker has announced two new additions to the 10-round 1911 DS Prodigy pistol line-up, including the 1911 DS Prodigy AOS Low Capacity and the 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25-inch AOS Low Capacity.

Both the 5-inch and the 4.25-inch 10-round Prodigy pistols are ready to accept a wide range of optical sights.

Each was designed for those shooters who may live in restrictive locales. Each offers a polymer grip module featuring a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment made popular on the Hellcat family of 9mm pistols, and it mounts to the forged steel frame. Matching up with this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations and a rugged black Cerakote finish, while housed within the slide is a match-grade bushing-less forged stainless steel bull barrel in both models.

“The Springfield Armory Prodigy has proven itself as a pistol that takes everything shooters love about the classic 1911 design and updates it with a host of modern performance enhancements,” said Steve Kramer, vice president of marketing for Springfield Armory. “With these new 10-round versions, the popular Prodigy pistol is now available to shooting enthusiasts in restrictive locales.”

Both the 5-inch and the 4.25-inch 10-round Prodigy pistols are ready out of the box to accept a wide range of optical sights, and the Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.

The pistols are now available with a cover plate with a rear sight and one optics-mounting plate, and additional plates to accept a wide range of popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store.
