Smith & Wesson Expands California-Compliant Pistol Options

Smith & Wesson has announced the release of three new California-compliant M&P9 Shield pistol models. Now available to California-based and restricted-state shooters are the M&P9 Shield Plus, M&P9 M2.0 Compact, and the M&P9 M2.0 full-sized pistol.

The first new pistol is the M&P9 Shield Plus, which is a great option for everyday carry for those able to do so. The 9mm pistol has a 3.1-inch barrel and a 10+1 capacity with the flush-fit magazine, and a slim and compact design for ease of use and concealment. It features a stainless-steel slide with a flat-faced trigger that helps the shooter with consistent and repeatable finger placement along with a modified grip texture for better grip purchase in the hand with comfort.

The pistol has been designed with the optimal 18-degree grip angle for a natural point of aim for the shooter and helps the shooter manage recoil better. To round out the pistol features are white dot sights on the slide and a loaded chamber indicator. The California-compliant M&P9 Shield Plus comes from Smith & Wesson with two 10-round magazines and has an MSRP of $599.99.

The other two new pistols in the California-compliant line of M&P9 pistols come from the M2.0 family. The updated M&P9 M2.0 pistols have advancements over the original line, geared towards a better shooting experience in personal, sporting, or professional usage. Some of the key features of the M2.0 series are an extended stainless-steel chassis and a low barrel bore axis that helps reduce muzzle rise with faster follow-up shots. It also features a fine-tuned trigger with a lighter trigger pull complete with a tactile and audible reset and loaded chamber indicator.

The updated M2.0 series has interchangeable palm swell inserts for a customized fit and feel for the shooter. Essentially, Smith & Wesson updated and transformed almost every aspect of the M2.0 pistols from trigger, frame, and finish. The full-size frame on the M2.0 pistol has a 4.25-inch barrel, while the compact frame features a 4-inch barrel. The California-compliant M&P9 M2.0 pistols come with two 10-round magazines and have an MSRP of $769 for the full-sized model and $749 for the compact model.

Patti Miller is one of the most awesome females in the tactical/firearm (or any) industry. Imagine a tall, hawt, dangerous Laura Ingalls Wilder type with cool hair and a suppressed blaster and you'll be getting the idea. What's interesting is that in addition to being a willing brawler and intrepid adventuress, she's also an Ent/Ogier level gardener and a truly badass baker.
