Sig MOD X9 Selected by USSOCOM as Mk27 Handgun Suppressor

Last fall, the USSOCOM selected the Sig MOD X9 in 9mm for the suppressor that will be used on the Mk27 handguns. The Mk27 is the SOF unique pistol known as the Glock 19 on the market with different models being used currently.

SIG MOD-X9 suppressor
It was announced that the Sig MOD-X9 suppressor was selected as the handgun suppressor for the Mk27 pistol, a Special Operations Forces pistol known commercially as a Glock 19. At this time there is no public notice to buy based on the nontraditional steps of this procurement.

The MOD-X9 is a completely user-configurable and modular suppressor that is made up of seven 3D printed titanium baffles along with an encapsulator and 21-points of impact adjustment. The baffles being made of titanium allows for a lightweight suppressor that allows the end-user to customize the suppressor to meet their mission needs. The exterior design doubles as wrench flats to make assembly or disassembly a breeze for the end-user.

According to Sig Sauer, the MOD-X9 has the class-leading sound performance to go along with the customization. The suppressor has a length anywhere from 3.25 inches up to 7.5 inches, depending on how many baffles are used, with weight ranging from 5 ounces to 8 ounces. The sound is also variable from 127dB up to 145.3dB, with the shorter assembly offering the higher sound readings when size is the priority over sound reduction.

SIG MOD-X9 Baffles
The Sig MOD-X9 is a fully user-customizable suppressor, allowing the user to select between 3 and 7 of the 3D printed titanium baffles. The user can adjust the length or sound suppression depending on the number of baffles they include with the encapsulator.

SIG MOD-X9 Suppressor flats
The unique outside design of the suppressor doubles as wrench flats to allow for easy assembly or disassembly and direct threads onto the host weapon.

The companies that participated in the selection process demonstrated their suppressors to the command at a private range event in 2020. After that event, they selected two suppressors to move forward with to operator testing and a technical evaluation at the Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane, which handles procurement of weapons for the Special Operations Forces. They selected the Sig Mod-X9 suppressor.

The commercially available Sig MOD-X9 is compatible with a 9mm handgun with a threaded barrel in ½-28 or M13.5x1mm LH, including (but not limited to) the Sig MPX, Sig P365, Sig P226, and the Sig P320. The Sig MOD-X9 comes from the factory with both a ½-28 and an M13.5x1mm LH piston for versatility.

A MOD-X9 suppressor is a lightweight option that Sig touts as class-leading sound suppression. The suppressor ranges in weight from 5 ounces to 8 ounces in various configurations.

Since this procurement didn’t follow the traditional steps, due to its nature, there is no public notice to buy. But the first batch of suppressors for the Mk27 handgun should be in use by this summer.

Imagine a tall, hawt, dangerous Laura Ingalls Wilder type with cool hair and a suppressed blaster and you'll be getting the idea.
