Mesa Tactical has made a name for itself and filled a solid niche in the tactical community by producing various shotgun accessories over the years. This year at SHOT Show 2022 they revealed a subsidiary named Mesatac. Their focus will be on accessories for the AR-15.
New Rail for RDS
One of the items on the original Mesa Tactical side that I found interesting was a new rail for red dot sights like Trijicon’s RMR. Part of their tried and true Sureshell carrier lineup, this RMR mount co-witnesses with the factory ghost ring sights.
It was apparently developed as an agency request, and it works on either the Benelli M2 and M4 shotguns. The Sureshell With RMR Mount is offered in a number of variations, with either 4- or 6-shell capacity and either polymer or aluminum construction.
Prices range from $93 to $115 retail.
The polymer version is $93 whereas the aluminum models sell for $110 for 4-shell and $115 for 6-shell versions.
These shell carriers are a cut above other brands on the market. I have been running a few for a number of years on everything from full-length shotguns to compact short barreled guns and have yet to find any issues with them. They are as good now after many years of hard use as they were the day I bought them.
On the Mesa Tac side, their pistol grip seems extremely comfortable.
This is the first grip for the AR-15 is a rubber over-molded configuration with comfortable grippy texture and a beavertail to protect the web of the hand. It features an armature of tough 20% glass-filled polypropylene covered by TPE synthetic rubber. The Trego grip looks good on any rifle and feels great in the hand.
MSRP for this grip is $15. It looks to be a solid alternative to what is already out there.
What I found really impressive were their rail systems offered in a variety of lengths. Dubbed the Pyramid series due to their distinctive shape, these free-floating rails are fitted with the industry-standard M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom which can accept Picatinny rail sections as well as other M-LOK mounts and accessories
“We have expanded our attention to the tactical carbine, especially America’s most popular centerfire rifle platform, the AR-15. Mesatac will launch as a fresh identity to brand a new line of tactical accessories for carbines and rifles, with the same innovation, quality and attention to detail that has made Mesa Tactical’s shotgun stocks and shell carriers industry standards among professional operators,” says Mitch Barrie, company president.
Prices on these handguards range from $170 for a 9 ½-inch model to $250 for a 17-inch version.
I’m pretty excited for this new lineup of handguards for both Mesatac and the tactical community. The design is a solid one with enough to let you stand out from the crowd. The unique profile allows you to set a sling mount as far forward on the forend as you possibly can.
Here’s to hoping we see more designs and improvements to the AR platform in the coming months as we’ve seen on the shotgun side of the house.
