Maxim Defense MD11

Maxim Defense Industries is well known for their PDX and MDX weapons systems and I have enjoyed shooting them at SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range in the past. Now they have something new to try…something for just a little bit further out there: the Maxim Defense MD:11.

The Maxim Defense Industries booth did not disappoint with their new MD11 and FDE ride!

The introduction of the MD11 shows a partial switching of gears from close-range engagement platforms to a much longer range platform.

The MD11 is a direct impingement based on the SR-25 platform. It has a large frame and will be available in 6.5 Creedmoor or 308 Winchester. The barrels are 18″ with an option of Proof Research carbon fiber or stainless steel.

With a stainless steel barrel, it weighs in at just nine pounds. One feature that differentiates it from the SR-25 platform is the quick-change barrel. The user can swap from 6.5 Creedmoor to 308 Winchester easily. The Proof Research carbon fiber barrel weighs in at around 60% less than that of the stainless steel.

The overall length of the MD11 is 37″. The upper and lower are a Billet 7075-T6 receiver set. It comes standard with the Geissele SSA-E 2 stage trigger, Radian Ambidextrous charging handle, ambidextrous magazine release and selector, B5 Systems SOPMOD carbine length stock, things that most end users would’ve swapped out anyways if they didn’t have it.

The folks at Maxim Defense I spoke with are shooters and they knew that having the upgraded accessories straight from the factory made a lot of sense.

They will be available in Urban, Arid (my favorite), and Black.

The sample I picked off the shelf had a scope on and felt very light for the large rifle that it is. The finish was excellent and looked great in Arid.

This will be a great addition to the Maxim Defense Industries line-up!

Maxim Defense MD:11

From the initial release.

The MD:11 is an updated variant of the original Stoner AR-10 design. The Direct impingement system still functions like most. There has been no serious change to the inside of the upper receiver; the gas tube forces all that gas into a key screwed atop the bolt carrier group. The gas expands inside the BCG, forcing it backwards into the buffer tube. There is no ‘chamber,’ but more of a diversion like the original design.”

The MD:11 will be available in 6.5 Creedmoor or .308 Winchester utilizing an 18 in. Proof Research carbon fiber or stainless-steel barrel. Using these barrels keeps the weight down to just 9lbs. This weapon was initially designed for United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) requirements. However, once the decision was made to commercialize the SOCOM requirement (within limits), 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Winchester were deemed the best calibers.

It also comes standard with a carbine buffer system, B5 SOPMOD stock, and utilizes the Gisselle SSA-E trigger. Initially, they are available in three colors; Urban, Arid, and Black.
