Have a gun safe, humidor, liquor cabinet, or some other important place you’d like to increase security on? Take a look at this — it’s called the Lockdown Puck. It’s a monitoring device complete with app to track temperature, humidity, movement, and similar issues from anywhere in the world (or so we’re told).
Lockdown is part of American Outdoor Brands (which you may recall owns Crimson Trace). They describe the Puck, their latest product as of this writing, thusly:
“[It is] a state-of-the-art monitoring and security device that provides true peace-of-mind with real-time notifications and control using the Lockdown Logic™ App. Track temperature and humidity, movement, and when something is opened anywhere in the world. Whether you’re securing your vault, front door, or vehicle, with a touch of a button, Lockdown what matters most.
Utilizing state-of-the-art sensors and our proprietary algorithm to detect tampering, the Puck™ will notify you instantly anywhere in the world. The built-in Wi-Fi and Lockdown Logic App connects directly with your smart home and other Lockdown Devices. From protecting guns and ammo to your family heirlooms, you can trust the Lockdown Puck to keep your valuables safe and secure.”
Now, as of this writing, none of the team here at The Mag Life have tried the Puck out yet, but there are a few reviews out there online (and probably more coming).
Ed Friedman of Shooting Illustrated recently reviewed it, saying:
“…having had a few weeks to test the Puck, I can tell you the product is well worth its $109.99 MSRP. For one, the app is well designed and extremely easy to navigate. It is also secure—accessing the app and therefore the settings of the Puck itself is password protected and you can make it require you to log in every time you open the app (this is the default setting). It, like many other apps, will also allow Touch entry using the fingerprint scanner on your phone if you choose to enable that feature.
The Puck itself is unobtrusive and can be mounted to a door via the included plate and screws, along with the included magnetic sensor to detect when a door has been opened. Not only will the Puck unit issue an audible (and annoying) alarm when the door is opened, it will also alert your phone so you’ll be aware of the breach wherever you are at the time. And the door need not be a structural one. The puck can mount to a safe, a humidor—anything that opens—and provide the same level of notification.”
It was also reviewed on the RE Factor Tactical blog last April, though it doesn’t say who at REFT wrote the review.
“Why Should I Buy The Lockdown Puck? [It] has literally zero competitors for similar technology and capability. There is no other company in the world that offers gun owners the ability to integrate gun storage and security with Smart Home features. The Lockdown Puck has the ability to monitor and connect to 512 separate products and organizes all of them into 1 incredible interface. The Puck will ensure your guns are secure, protected from humidity, and will increase the overall security of your home for $110.00.”
That’s about all we know at the moment.
