Fix It Sticks Rifle and Optics Combo Toolkit: Handy and Precise

Working on your own guns quickly teaches you that an average toolbox doesn’t always cut it. Sure, you can often make do, but sooner or later, you’ll need something you don’t have—likely several things. Those needs turned me on to Fix It Sticks. Fix It Sticks offers quality, firearm-themed toolkits that do what you need while fitting nicely into your range bag. That includes the Fix It Sticks Rifle and Optics Combo Toolkit.

I recently purchased a Wheeler Professional Scope-Mounting Kit. It came with a nice Wheeler F.A.T. torque wrench, but I wanted something handier that doesn’t necessarily have torque capability for other uses. The Fix It Sticks kit has a torque attachment, as opposed to a dedicated torque wrench, so it was perfect. So, I’ve been teaching myself to “professionally” mount scopes and this kit has been a big help. Let’s start with a look at what the kit includes.

Accessory Details

The compact case packs a lot of good stuff. The central component is the T-Way T-handle wrench. The wrench works with any 1/4-inch hex bit, for which it has three possible attachment points, depending on the angle and leverage you need. The wrench holds the bits magnetically, which I really like. I hate it when the bit falls out of a certain other optic torque wrench when I line it up. The built-in spinning collar makes it easy to hold the T-wrench in place while in use.

The kit includes nine hex-head bits of the following sizes: 3/32″, 5/64″, 1/8″, 5/32″, 3/16″, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm. There are four torx-head bits: T10, T15, T20, and T25. There is also one standard and one Phillips-head bit. The case includes a molded accessory holder, in which each bit has its own slot for easy retention and organization. The socket adapter is meant for tactical scope mounts, but you may have other uses for it as well.

The All-in-One Torque Driver attaches easily to the T-wrench or any other 1/4-inch drive wrench or driver and accepts any 1/4-inch bit. It is also magnetic. The torque wrench is marked in 10-inch-lb. increments from 15 to 65 inch-lbs.

The two optics bubble levels are very handy. One is magnetic, while the other attaches to standard Picatinny rails to ensure your scopes are right. The levels are stored in a protective foam insert that fits in the back of the molded accessory holder.

Using the Fix It Sticks Toolkit

Fix It Sticks really makes things simple. The tools and bits are easily accessible and fit together perfectly. The T-wrench’s versatility gives you options for length and leverage. Much more so than regular screwdrivers. You can use the spinning collar or not. I’ve done it both ways. The T-wrench gives me a better grip and more precision than a standard screwdriver handle, as well as the other small torque drivers I own.

The All-in-One Torque Driver attachment is different from my other torque drivers in that you don’t preset your inch-pound limit. You just turn the screw carefully and stop when the driver’s fixed mark matches your desired torque level. Very simple. It’s also slim and compact, whereas some others are not, and coupling it with the T-wrench provides very good accessibility.

One thing I’ve learned about mounting scopes is the need to keep everything level. Of course, I knew that already, but I may or may not have simply eyeballed most of the scopes I’ve mounted in the past and proclaimed them “good enough.” But now that I have a “professional” scope mounting kit, the forms must be observed. So, these levels come in handy. Honestly, I use several levels for every scope I mount these days. But I didn’t have one that specifically clamps onto a Picatinny rail until I got this kit. It’s a nice addition. And the protective foam insert keeps your levels safe and out of the way until you need them.

Finally, the whole kit is very light and compact. It easily slips into a range bag or rifle case pouch. I like having a few basic tools at the range for minor repairs or adjustments, and this kit is perfect for that.

Final Thoughts

I said earlier that Fix It Sticks filled my need for handy tools geared toward firearms and firearm accessories. This kit is no different. It’s meant for rifle actions and optics applications, but you can obviously use it for anything. But I like having several small kits, each with a primary focus. That allows me to carry the tools I think I’ll need while not lugging along a bigger multipurpose kit.

I’ve had great results from my Fix It Sticks kits, and this one is no different. I’ve recently used it to install or reinstall four scopes and several red dots. Everything works great, and I love the slim, easy-to-use T-wrench and torque driver. Fix It Sticks offers this kit with the All-In-One Torque Driver or individual preset torque limiters. I prefer the All-in-One. I think it suits my needs and capabilities better, but you may choose to go for a little more precision.

Whatever you choose, this is a nice little kit that fills a need for me. The well-designed tools make the job a little easier. Maybe it will do the same for you. If so, GunMag Warehouse can hook you right up. Check it out.
