Back in January, just in time for SHOT Show 2020, Springfield Armory introduced its full-sized GI-length Ronin Operator. Well, meeting the demand for more compact-sized pistols, the company has introduced a new Ronin model that is available in 9mm and .45 ACP at a price just under $850. The company advertises the new Ronin Operator 4.25″ as a lightweight, rugged, and reliable 1911 pistol built for a lifetime of service.
“Since its release earlier this year, the full-size Ronin Operator has been extremely popular due to its combination of impressive features and pricing,” says Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “The new Ronin Operator 4.25″ adds a lighter, more compact option for those who love carrying the legendary 1911.”

…the Ronin Operator 4.25″ offers shooters an exceptional pistol with the strength and durability they have come to expect from a Springfield Armory firearm. This is accomplished through the use of a forged carbon steel slide, lightweight forged alloy frame and a forged barrel. The pistol features a traditional barrel bushing system that matches up with its 4.25″ match grade barrel. The barrel itself is fully supported and ramped, lending additional strength to the design and ensuring consistent and reliable functioning.
The Ronin Operator 4.25″ sports a beautiful two-tone finish, with the forged alloy frame featuring a satin aluminum Cerakote finish and the forged carbon steel slide a hot salt blued finish. Lightweight and comfortable to carry, it weighs in at 29.5 ounces in the .45 ACP version and 31 ounces in the 9mm variant.
While the Ronin Operator exudes a classic air of tradition in regards to quality and value, its appointments feature everything you would want on a thoroughly modern 1911. The beavertail grip safety with “memory bump” ensures solid engagement, while the fiber optic front/tactical rack rear sight and extended safety lever deliver instant sight picture and intuitive control.

Note: the safety is not ambidextrous, so left-handed users may want to look into installing one that meets their needs.
Its a good looking pistol but manufacturers really need to drop the naming crap. Its a 1911, just having RONIN on would make it a pass.
Very nice looking pistol indeed,but I do agree w/Steven on the name.I bought the Defender when it came out,what a sweet pistol for the price,haven’t shot it yet.I’m waiting for something more along the lines of my TRP to come out,NO i do not want to change calibers,I’ll stick with fat and slow lol.What a great weapon that is,I’ve shot thousands of rounds through it,taught many people to shoot with it.So well balanced and accurate,you pretty much have to try to miss to miss.
I recently got the Saint Victors in 16″ AND 10.3″.again Springfield knocked it out of the park,superb shooters they are (trying not to repeat praises rofl,yes I’m a fan boy).The 16 has a 6×24 and a Sig red dot,the 10.3 has green laser,10050 lumen tac light and Sig red dot also.
A shout out to Gun Mag W.H. as they supplied all of my 25 round mags,got a 10 pack for cheaper than anywhere,also my LULA mag loader,if you don’t have 1,GET 1,they are worth every penny.
As for the “Ronin” it’s a beautiful 1911,but just not for me,but if you’re new to S.A. (Springfield Arms) They make top notch weapons no matter what platform or price range you are looking at and will serve you well.If you do by chance have an issue (it happens),it will be handled quickly and professionally,I have personally had 1,and it was taken care of and I am still a huge fan,most places lose me due to customer service,so that says a lot,yes it involved me sending my pistol in to them-kinda scary TBH,but not a problem at all.

This looks really interesting. I think I would prefer the full size version, but I’ve never owned a Commander size so I’m not certain. Last year I finally gave in and purchased a TRP that I found I could not even rack open when I got it home. Silly me! Luckily my LGS knows me and they took it back at full value and I got stuff I could actually use!!
This is a full sized version – just shorter barrel and frame is aluminum, but unbelievably balanced. 5.00 SS is a little heavier which has a little less recoil. But neither gave me any issues, both I shot tonight grouping is around 2 inches
